Best BIRRIA in Washington. Seriously. Before Washington, there was a place in Kansas City we had that was really good but THIS place blew my mind. Birria was definitely the best I’ve had in Washington (believe me I’m a birria connoisseur). I just happened to stop through here after visiting a family friend in Vancouver and the area was very beautiful (port of Kalama) and it made us want to stop and take a look around and we were lucky enough to come across this gem. I have already started telling everyone I know about this place because this place is seriously worth every penny! I was grateful to speak with Marco and his family about their business and just about life in general and it was truly a nice experience. Marco is extremely well spoken and can lead a conversation by himself, the first time I ever talked to him he told me some scenic and historic locations in Kalama to visit while we were there, I truly could not be more appreciative of Marco and his family and I can say with EXTREME certainty that every single time we pass through here again, I will make it a priority to come back and eat here again. Salsa - 10/10, Quesabirria tacos - 10/10, consommé - 10/10, service is impeccable and the atmosphere is perfect. My wife and I had the best time being able to eat some tacos while looking at a beautiful river and it was a perfect day.

Thank you Marco and family for letting my wife and I talk your ears off about our entire life story lol and thank you for sharing your life stories as well. I love being able to eat good food and connect with the people who’s making my food. Thank you for reading if you...

While visiting the Kalama Harbor Area, hanging with our friends and children in the park and playground enjoying the great September weather, hunger hit us like a wall. In comes Birrieria La Vaquita! The staff are super friendly, it is family owned and operated, and the food is delicious! They have an amazing selection of food, Birrieria obviously, street taco style or with melted cheese on a folded tortilla they hit up on the grill. They have Birria quesadillas, Birria nachos, and even a keto taco with a melted cheese “crunchy taco shell” with no grain!

They have great coolers to enjoy alongside your food, one with cucumber and chia, a pineapple one, a watermelon one, and a horchata as well.

Food is prepared quickly and with attention to detail, and their consume broth to go along with your Birria tacos is… DELICIOUS!

We happened in on a Tuesday so we had one of their 3 cheese Taco Tuesday specials which came out beautifully and was super tasty.

This is a great place to enjoy a bite while enjoying a nice show in the park, a walk along the river, or a picnic in the grass.

If you are ever in the area and want a quick south of the border treat, I highly recommend a stop in at La Vaquita! Super Yummy!

Thank you for taking the time to read my honest review and I hope you have a wonderful...

To be fair, the 5 star on the atmosphere was, in part, due to a gorgeous day to sit outside!! I’ve been a fan of birria for a couple decades now and have had it all over Mexico and the US. I’m gonna go ahead with some big words and say La Vaquita Kalama is one of the absolute best I’ve had anywhere!! I know, big words, but they really have it nailed. So much flavor and great portions, great people and, at least on a sunny day, a great view. We shared a quesabirria and a vampire taco. Both were pretty big and came with a small comsome to dip the goodies into. Oh, pretty sure the pickled onions, carrots and peppers were house made, cause they were best I’d even had. The salsa was chose, the hot option out of mild hot or extra hot, was delicious!! I think it was Chili de Arbol, which is my favorite. Oh, I almost forgot!! We also each got agua frescas, the lime, cucumber and chia seed one was so refreshing and tasty. They’re made fresh daily. This cart is well worth your drive to Kalama. The folks that run it were super friendly, professional and skilled at their craft. I’m excited to get everything they offer over the next couple visits. Oh,,,, maybe bring wet wipes,,, besides being super tasty,, it can get...

Warning ‼️ messy! I moved back to Kalama over a year ago and just discovered this place last month, now I’m kicking myself! How did I not know about this place sooner? Well, I do now. And now this will probably be my favorite summer spot for a lunch break with a view. The location? At the beautiful Kalama marina ✅ The convenience? Adequate parking, short walk, next to a building with cute artisan stores ✅ The food? So good. Flavor is good. The juiciness of the meat, excellent. The portion sizes are very good considering it’s absolutely restaurant quality. The menu is less diverse than many food carts, which is generally a drawback. However I believe that this means their food is better just a little, because they spend so much practice on one signature ingredient and keep the dishes fairly simple. Also a huge plus for any preferential eaters, less random extras to remove or change. The staff is very friendly and respectful. I don’t normally like being called ma’am, but the kind girl who takes the orders is very polite.
