McMenamins Kalama Cove Bar — Restaurant in Kalama

A friend, husband and I decided to check out the new Public Market one sees while passing through Kalama. We decided to have lunch at McMinneman’s and to check out the Cove Bar. Our host and bar keeper really was friendly and attentive. It is rare to be served by someone who genuinely enjoys his job.

We all thought, as we find at any restaurant these days, that prices are getting out of hand. Our food was well prepared and fresh. We enjoyed the pretzels, pizza and schnueben sandwich. But $22 for a chicken sandwich? It was good, but hardly warranted $22. Thus the 3 stars. I feel 3 stars is what I want to give overall, but our service was great, making the meal.

Atmosphere, was a little chilly. The ventilation was blowing chilly air, enough to blow my hair around. We moved, but it was still chilly. Stopped for an amazing lunch at the Mcmenamins Kalama cove bar. Sitting just above the river under a covered patio,cool breeze, watching boats cruise by and seaplanes touch and go. They have a good amount of seating indoors and out. Pinball, shuffleboard, pool, darts, event room, bathrooms, bar and kitchen. Don't let the menue fool you. We ordered the rice bowl and nachos.. beware you will be sad because you won't be able to finish the plate. Sooo good. I had a non alcoholic beverage which had a ginger beer in the mix. It was surprisingly good . Stop here if you want to eat good food with a view for the same price as going to a fast food joint. Dont forget to take a walk along the marina and the beach. We love McMenamins Kalama overall, but the Cove and Ahles are by far our favorite bars in the complex. The Cove always has friendly, fun bartenders and the drinks are fabulous. My husband orders off the cocktail menu and I pretty much always get a Ketel grapefruit - but only because the grapefruit juice is fresh squeezed. So delicious! We don't eat every time we're here, but when we do, we're not disappointed.
