We've been very excited about Cairo's Kitchen opening up shop downtown! We were able to have a taste of their food during one of the Night-time Farmer's Markets and were very impressed. My husband and I split their mixed shwarma wrap combo with fries and a drink. Beef and chicken shwarma, cheese, grilled tomatoes, parsley and garlic sauce. Very savory and delicious! The fries were crisp and well seasoned, but not overly so. We asked for an extra side of hummus and tahini sauce to dip the fries in. Nice combination of crispy fries and sauces! They carry Pepsi products and have a water filtration system in place for those of us who get excited about that sort of thing. (My husband! He gave it a thumbs up!) From what I gathered they have a rotation of desserts that they prepare fresh daily. Today's dessert was RICE PUDDING!!! They top it off with your choice of Nutella or cookie batter spread and choice of nuts. (I chose both spreads and pistachio...YUM!) Their rice pudding was creamy and flavorful (they didn't truly have to put the spreads on, but I appreciated it!). The interior had plenty of tables (5 or 6? ) plus a counter facing Rose Ave to do some serious people watching. There are several options for outdoor seating with tables and benches right outside the restaurant. With Bronson park a mere couple skips away, one could easily impress their guests with a picnic in the park! Everything was clean as a whistle and the aesthetic was very pleasing to the eye. (Minimalist with lovely pictures of Egypt framed along the walls). Two non-gender bathrooms which were clean. All the employees were extremely pleasant and were very happy to explain things to you. We had a wonderful experience and very much look forward to future visits to try more of their...
Read moreStarted off on a bit of a sour note as the cashier was not very polite or accommodating in any way. I ended up getting an order of falafel and fries and was refused the breakfast wrap ( I can understand as it was later in the day, however it is listed on the regular menu with no notice of restrictions of time for listed breakfast items) falafel was unfortunately some of the worst I've had. my partner ordered the shawarma and lentil soup to share with the toddler. Lentil soup was bland and no better than what you can expect from a can and the shawarma wrap was not much better either, ended up coming out with random changes from what was on the menu by no request of our own, came with added falafel, added lettuce, and no onions. Fountain drinks tasted off as well. I was hopeful going in as a few friends said they have had a good experience here and enjoyed the food but unfortunately I can not say the same. I would recommend staying away, the food is okay at best, most definitely not worth the price.
In response to the owner, I'm not seeking to bash you or your restaurant but this is an accurate representation of my experience at your establishment. The food was not prepared as described in the menu or requested to be altered in any way other than asking for no cheese on the wrap. As well your cashier did make the claim that you are serving halal foods when asked. It is very possible we came at a time where there were newer, under trained staff and I can understand that. I'm willing to bump to a two star as I was frustrated when writing initially but I do stand by my review and believe others should be wary if you aren't properly training and...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you're in downtown Kalamazoo and haven’t tried this Egyptian lunch spot, let me tell you—you're missing out on a life-changing food experience. This place is like a culinary oasis in the middle of the city, and every dish they serve is straight-up phenomenal!
Let’s start with the crispy shrimp—it’s hands down the best I’ve ever had. Golden, crunchy perfection on the outside with the juiciest, most tender shrimp inside. I swear these shrimp must have a personal trainer because they’re in peak form. Every bite had me questioning why I’ve ever eaten shrimp anywhere else.
Their shawarma wraps are another masterpiece. Packed with tender, flavorful meat and spices that transport you to the streets of Cairo, these wraps are stuffed so generously that they’ll have you rethinking portion sizes forever. Every bite is an explosion of Middle Eastern magic wrapped in the fluffiest pita. It’s the kind of food that makes you want to learn a few Egyptian dance moves.
And don’t even get me started on their fresh juice! I don’t know what kind of sorcery they’re using, but these juices are fresher than a morning breeze on the Nile. Whether you go for the mango, pomegranate, or orange—it’s pure, liquid sunshine in a cup.
Bonus points? Their set-up at the Farmers Market on Saturdays! There’s nothing better than strolling through the market and knowing you can grab a shawarma wrap, made fresh and bursting with flavor. It’s like having a slice of Egypt right in Kalamazoo.
Five stars isn’t enough to describe this place—more like 100 stars. If you’re looking for the best lunch in town, this...
