Factory Coffee - Downtown — Restaurant in Kalamazoo

My friend and I used to go here all of the time in college, we haven’t been in about a year and were in town and had to stop here! However we were extremely disappointed, Service was terrible, the woman working at the register (4/13 @ 3:30 pm) didn’t ask us if we wanted it for here or to go. She automatically made it to go, which makes you feel unwelcome. My friend and I both got the ‘Brekkie Bowl’ which comes with a choice of protein and the server didn’t list any options or ask us if we wanted additional protein. The girl at the register was just plain out rude and unfriendly and made us feel discriminated against. We had to clarify that our bowl was for here. Once we got it, the potatoes were dry, uncooked, and cold, and there was only a small amount of egg and cheese with sour cream and two chives. We were so disappointed. It tasted so bad and we both left hungry. The customer service was so bad we didn’t even bother asking for a refund or to have it remade. Will never come...

The service was excellent during my visit for lunch and coffee around noon. Despite being out of bagels and bacon, the staff efficiently offered substitutions with brioche buns and sourdough bread for the sandwiches. However, my low rating stems from the coffee quality.

I've noticed some consistent issues with the coffee at both locations I've visited. On a previous visit to a different location, both my coffee and my wife’s drink tasted burnt and bitter. This time, my wife's dirty chai was extremely bitter, and my cortado was notably sour. These problems suggest issues with the barista's extraction times. Stopped by to check it out a couple weeks ago and had a great time! I'm not a coffee drinker, but I got myself a hot chocolate, it was better then most coffee shop hot cocoas I get. It was very creamy. This price was also lower then my usual place. My roommate got some iced chai and said it was pretty good, but she talked about her bagel for the rest of the week she loved it so much. The atmosphere was pretty modern, its almost got a sleek industrial feel? I prefer a more cozy feel, but it felt pretty appropriate for downtown. The day I went, it was pretty crowded inside, there there was plenty of seating outside which is probably great in the summer. I'll definitely stop in next time I'm putzing...
