Fluffy Fresh Donuts — Restaurant in Kansas City

I'm so thankful that this place has been making the best donuts in town for over 30 years. The place is exactly as I remember it in the 80's, and frankly the complaints mentioned in some of the reviews are actually things that make this place great. They aren't just trying to make a ton of volume and become a krispy kreme, part of what makes their donuts delicious are the small batches they are made in. You showed up at noon on Sunday and they were sold out? That's because I showed up at 10 and stocked up; they aren't just going to make extra on the off chance Bob shows up at noon and needs 2 dozen, because if the Bob's don't show up, donuts don't keep and they have to throw the donuts away, and that costs them money. In the age of dependency on credit cards, if you don't carry any cash on you, don't go here, or maybe just stop at one of the 25 atm's on your drive there, you never know you might actually need that cash for...

I live up near Topeka. It's sad that I have to drive all the way to Kansas City to find a decent donut but am I ever glad I did. I christen these THE BEST DONUTS. I had a cinnamon roll & a Bavarian cream filled chocolate iced donut. They are the most PILLOWY SOFTEST yeast dough donuts you will find. The pastry cream in the Bavarian was amazing -- not too sweet and not thick and globby. The chocolate on top was bar none. The cinnamon rolls (shaped more like a honey bun) were HUGE and delicious. I had them the day after I bought them and you wouldn't have known they were "day old". The lady in there was the most congenial type you don't see anymore. I hope I have more excuses to come back to KC for Fluffy...

Decent Enough Donuts.

Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed once I tried Fluffy Fresh. I was expecting Shangri La or something after reading all of the reviews. I would say it was average at best, and I would not call these donuts "fluffy" for anything, at least the cake donuts. There were not any yeast/glazed donuts when I arrived on Sunday morning. I had a maple, a chocolate iced with nuts and an applesauce donut. All of them except for the applesauce, which was quite good, were unremarkable.

I'm not saying that Fluffy Fresh was bad, but it was not any better than any of the donut shops I usually frequent in other parts of town.
