I am so happy that Genghis Khan has reopened under new management! This restaurant has always been a gem, and I'm delighted to report that it still provides the same great quality of food that made it a favorite of mine.
From the moment you step inside, you can feel the welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has retained its inviting and vibrant ambiance, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal, especially if you love the bustling vibe of the 39th Street area.
The food at Genghis Khan is, without a doubt, the star of the show. The Mongolian BBQ is outstanding, offering a wide variety of fresh ingredients and flavorful sauces. You can customize your bowl exactly how you like it, and watching the skilled chefs cook it on the large grill is always a treat. The flavors are rich and satisfying, and every bite reminds you why this place is such a beloved establishment.
Even though the restaurant is still training new staff, the service is commendable. The new team is eager to please and attentive to customers' needs. It's clear that they are committed to providing a positive dining experience, and any minor hiccups are quickly addressed. With a bit more time, I'm confident the staff will become as polished and efficient as the previous team.
One aspect that stands out is the management's dedication to maintaining high standards. They have done an excellent job of preserving the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. It's rare to find a place that manages to keep its essence intact while undergoing significant changes, and Genghis Khan has done just that.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Genghis Khan to anyone who enjoys great food and a lively atmosphere. Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, you won't be disappointed. The combination of delicious, customizable meals and a friendly, upbeat environment makes it a fantastic choice for dining out. I'm so glad to see this place thriving again and look forward to many more...
Read moreI got put off this place a few years ago (2019?) after being charged for the “all you can eat” when I did the “one trip.” The waitress accused me of eating a crab rangoon off my husband’s plate, the owner backed her up… it was a whole thing. And we never went back.
Anyway, fast forward to last week. We heard the restaurant had reopened, new ownership… and thought it might be worth giving another shot.
Visually, everything was exactly the same. And ironically, I think we were served by the exact same awful waitress that we were served by the last time we were there. She’s still just as unfriendly, abrupt and condescending as I had remembered her being.
I wanted to do the “mini bowl,” but was curtly informed that it isn’t available on the weekend, so I begrudgingly did the all you can eat. The buffet is astronomically more expensive than it used to be, and the new pricing structure is so complicated that I felt like I needed a lawyer present.
It’s going to sound like I’m nitpicking, but it just wasn’t great. They don’t have wings on the buffet anymore, which was a huge disappointment. The soup was salty sludge and inedible, the appetizers were picked over and basically nothing but crumbs, the vegetables looked like they’d been sitting on the buffet for several days, sauce and pieces of food were strewn all over the buffet and surrounding floor…
After my food had been grilled, the cook unceremoniously slopped my food onto a plate and handed it to me with noodles trailing off the plate. None of the dirty dishes were removed from the table by the waitress. And don’t even get me started on the disgusting bathroom curtains.
We got full. That’s about the only positive thing I can say about the experience. For a lunch that ended up costing nearly $40 a person, I expected a cleaner establishment, fresher food, much better service and some pretense of presentation. I would rather spend my...
Read moreWent for a friend's birthday for the first time and had been told this was a great place for Asian food, specifically Generals Tso's Chicken and the Mongolan Grill part.
We got there and the atmosphere of the place was really nice but nothing crazy special. The waitstaff were very good and very attentive, especially since we had a large group. But those standouts were where it ended.
For starters the grill is all you can eat but is separated into three different price points, Vegetarian, the cheapest, all meats except seafood, the middle price, and seafood included which was the most expensive of the three options. I suppose it's not horrible, depending on what your tastes are, but different from what I've seen in other similar places.
I decided though to try the supposed "best Generals Chicken in all of KC" dish, which took a 20 minute wait while most of the rest of the party went to the grill and ate immediately. Something to keep in mind if your going and some want a dish while others want the grill.
When the Generals Chicken came I was let down greatly. Very little ginger flavor in the sauce and about as spicy as ketchup. Honestly, this seems to be an issue in KC with Generals Chicken as a whole. There's literally one Asian restaurant in Claycomo that I've found in all of KC that makes a decent plate of General's Chicken. Not sure why either. I'd like to meet whoever deemed this place "Best in KC" though because it's a far cry from it. Not the worst by far either, just kinda there, in the middle, with all the other mediocre, no ginger, little spice versions you'll find all over the city.
At the end of the day the food was fine, the service amazing and the atmosphere great. Just not sure it's worth as much as they charge or all...
