You know what really pains me? When a restaurant is great and new management/ ownership takes over and ruins the experience. This is exactly what's happened here. This was once one of my favorite restaurants. I absolutely adored the Seafood Fettuccine (no scallops/substitute crab meat).
I called in to order this for myself and my husband the other night. Melissa answered the phone and when I began to place the order she stated that there would be an upcharge for replacing the scallops for crab meat. When I inquired about this she abruptly said "You can speak to the manager."
When the manager got on the phone, Andrea, she was curt, short and RUDE. She stated the same about the upcharge. When I told her that we've never had to pay an upcharge before she stated that "people weren't doing their job" and that whenever you make any change to an item on their menu there is an upcharge.
I've never been charged an upcharge at this restaurant dining in or carryout. I didn't ask for anything extra, just a substitution. Market price for scallops and crab meat - imitation crab meat at that is drastically different. We're actually saving this business money by subbing out the scallops for imitation crab meat and you want me to pay you extra on top of that - REALLY?!? Ridiculous.
Well my husband had a taste for it and you know when you get your mouth ready for something you have to have it so I very reluctantly proceeded with the order.
When we arrived to pick the order up I asked the gentleman at the bar to speak to the manager or owner because I was extremely "put out" by the experience with both Melissa and Andrea. He stated that Andrea was the manager and part owner. Welp! Therein is where the problem lies. When she came to the bar she had a horrible attitude, was just as dismissive as she was on the phone and had no regard for the fact that we've been long standing customers of this establishment. We've never paid an upcharge for what we ordered so yes I took issue with it. You know if I was a business owner/manager of a restaurant and a SMART one at that, and there was a concern from a longstanding customer. I'd do what it takes to continue to earn their business AND keep their loyalty. The right thing to do here would've been to apologize for the fact that this was our first time being made aware of this policy, waive it this one time and encourage us to return in the future. Not to be RUDE, CRASS and INDIGNANT.
I once worked at KU and we've been frequent patrons of this location and the one at the Legends for years. Melissa was once very nice and helpful. She's now impatient and robotic. The customer service is severely lacking. The quality of the food isn't the same either. When you cook fettuccine sauce it contains flour and you're supposed to cook the flour for at least a couple of minutes to get the flour taste out of the dish. Yes y'all I can burn š„ in the kitchen as well. They didn't do that and the dish wreaked of that flavor. Both my husband and I were sick to our stomachs trying to eat it.
Needless to say I won't be returning to this restaurant in the future. The horrendous customer service, incompetence of current management/ownership and the severe decline in the quality of the food, in addition to escalation in prices and ridiculous new policies is too much for me to remain loyal to this business. I definitely would NOT recommend them moving...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo it is my birthday and my boyfriend wanted to get me my favorite dish (Chicken A-La-Mer, sub the veggies for steamed broccoli) for lunch today but the service he received when he got there was the most horrific experience we have ever encountered in any restaurant. The waiter was very rude!!!! He first said they couldn't sub the veggies for broccoli on an online order - but only on call-in's. When he tried explaining that when you try to call it in - the automated message says you can only order online the waiter basically argued him down saying that you can and he should have hit the pound button to get the restaurant to speak to someone (which it never says on the recording so how would we know to do it). Then he says they can only charge him for a side of broccoli if he wanted to sub it. the waiter also is walking away dealing with other customers in the middle of the conversation at this point and we ask for the manager. The manager was even more rude, she automatically came out with attitude in her tone cutting us off mid-conversation saying it cost more for broccoli than the veggies and that is why there is an upcharge for it and when we tried to tell her about the waiters service, she dismissed it like it was ok. She stated her name was Ondrea or Andrea (pronounced it as "Onn") and that she was the General Manager and part owner (in a matter of fact tone) and that she was good with the services we've received and we can basically take it or leave it! I've never been so disrespected like this ever in the food service and that's why I'm writing this review. It's my birthday and I didn't even get lunch because of this because now it's time for me to clock back in so we just did a refund and said we'd never give our money to them ever again. I wouldn't recommend going here or supporting this business to anyone who appreciates customer service. I've given them pretty good tips in the past but never again. Please do not support this business. They do not care about you when things go wrong!!!!!! If I could rate them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy boyfriend and I came here hoping for some good comfort food like from home, but to our dismay that is not what we got. Our server was great and prompt. The appetizer bread trash, is just plain nothing great about it with butter thats not great in itself. My boyfriend asked for sprite when it was actually sierra mist and we were not told that. I ordered the blackened catfish and while it was blackened alright i could taste the burntness of the pan it was scraped off from like old Charcoal from a bbq pit. The veggies werent throughly cooked and the rice was bland. When I inquired to my server that the fish was not to my liking, she immediately handled it but it was the manager who rubbed me the wrong way. I simple told our server if i could get a fried fish, i didnt even ask or disclose my dislike for the entire plate. The manager said because i dont like it doesnt mean they send it back or replace with another option. As someone who has worked in the food industry and customer service i was appaled by this none compassionate statement. I even told her that i didnt need the fried fish if this is there so called policy. Also we had the apetitzer with the onion rings, jambalaya, shrimp and mushrooms. The onion rings were big beyond reason, and unseasoned no flavor. The mushrooms and popcorn shrimp were average and the jambalaya was mid, but probably eaten on the most. The place was empty and seemed to lack traffic, and in trying to give them chance we left out of their disappointed. I took my fry fish to go and it too was bland over fried. This was just...
