So much to say. I just had my third baby and it was my first delivery experience at KU. Thankful I had my husband and Doula with me or god knows the treatment I would’ve received. I did an unmedicated birth and said no intervention not even breaking my water and of course they respected that because you can’t do much about it but they definitely wanted more control over my delivery and in turn I got attitude galore. The OB, Dr. Long used fear to try to control me by telling me I was going to “tear my cervix and bleed excessively” if I pushed when my body was only doing what it does during the natural process of birth and at one point she was checking my cervix and was hurting me and I said “stop” and she didn’t stop so I’d call that assault. Over all her care was disappointing, disrespectful, and a disgrace to the birth process. On the other end my postpartum care was terrible. I had only a few fundal massages and then was neglected because my daughter was in the nicu and I chose to be over there as much as possible. Instead of calling me down for the necessary procedures and checks they left me to eventually have a delayed postpartum hemmorhage where I ended up in the ER and spent 7 hours getting more sub par care. 0/10 I would not recommend ever having a baby here. Onto my third part here and I believe the most important was our NICU care. We had a Dr who was so incredibly insensitive to us as parents of a baby in the NICU I can’t even imagine how she ended up in her position. Her name is Dr. Mahajan and she had an actual argument with us when we started to question her plan of care for our very healthy full term baby girl. She was pushy, unkind, arrogant, and hostile and spoke to me and my husband like we were beneath her. When I reminded her we were the parents she said “she (our baby girl) isn’t going anywhere”. Needless to say she left our room and never returned and we were discharged two days later with a healthy baby because we insisted we get different care for our girl. Care she disagreed with. We never got an apology from her or a farewell. She was a disappointment and the cherry on top is the nurses said “oh she has bad bedside manner”. If your own staff think you’re bad at interacting with patients in such a vulnerable space then find something else to do...
Read moreI was originally coming here to say my only complaint was feeling like the doctors didn't listen to me or take me seriously. They treated me like a drug seeker. They told me my head and neck CT were negative for anything. I just got a call from their neurosurgery department telling me I have a cerebral aneurysm. NO ONE EVER told me I have one until I just got this phone call!!!!!! How is that ok?!?!? I even asked the discharging Doc S Slimmer why I had a consult for neurosurgery on my discharge paperwork. I asked if it was for the numbness and tingling in my left hand and she just said "oh yeah". What?!?!? Just WOW!!!! I can't even get logged into my chart to see what the reports actually say. Just wow!
When I started with my symptoms I came here because KU is supposed to be the best. If this was the best I would hate to see the worst!!!
The nursing care I received on unit 45 was excellent, in addition to all the ancillary staff. Thank you for that at least. If you can't trust a doctor who can you trust? They looked me straight in my face and lied to me. The audacity and unprofessionalism is astounding!!! I'm not some uneducated fool off the street who doesn't know what they're talking about. I'm an ICU nurse myself and this is how they...
Read moreI work in the medical field and have for awhile now. I recently went through a terrifying experience wherein we almost lost my sister. KUMED Dr.'s, nurses and staff saved her life. Unit 63 is absolutely AMAZING. There you will find some of the finest minds in medicine to date. There are many hospitals in this area I would NEVER take my most precious loved one to but KUMED is exactly where I will always take her when needed. They are compassionate, honest, quick, kind, resourceful and amazing with the knowledge. There are SO many people we are forever indebted to but the Hepatic Department was phenomenal. Dr. Dunn, you are a hero to us. Dr. Mercurio you were with her from the beginning and never gave up and we really appreciated you and ALL the physician's that took so much time, energy and patience getting my sister back on her feet. It was quite a journey and I will never forget each and every one of these people who sacrificed their time for us. What a...
