A few years ago before I moved to KC, I was in the Westport area and wanted a good cup of coffee. I drove by Oddly Correct and noticed it was a coffee shop so I quickly parked, hopped out of my car, and headed in. A super humble guy greeted me as I walked in the door. I walked up to the coffee bar and honestly had no clue what I was doing. At that time, the "best" coffee I had ever had was from Starbucks or something. They were offering three coffees at the time and being totally unsure of which one to pick, I asked the the gentleman what his recommendation was. He carefully, without hesitation, described each coffee from aroma to the coffee's mouth feel. An Ethiopian coffee caught my attention so I decided to go with that one. I already drank coffee black, but I noticed they did not offer cream or sugar so when I asked the gentleman why they didn't offer any, he replied something along the lines of: "We are proud of the coffee we roast and offer and choose not to hide behind anything". I found that statement to be very profound in the coffee world and very bold. After receiving my cup of coffee and thanking the nice fella at the coffee bar I left the coffee shop. What happened next was life changing. That Ethiopian coffee I tasted was the so extremely revolutionary for me. My perception of what coffee tasted like completely changed and I was completely blown away. VIBRANT fruity flavors with almost a syrupy mouth feel were things I have never tasted or experienced before in coffee. Who would have thought this is what coffee could be like?? I went back a week later, bought a pour over, scale, hot water kettle, and Oddly Correct coffee and needless to say, never looked back at stereotypical coffee. I ordered online and had it shipped to me when I didn't live in KC, and now that I like just 15 minutes away, a couple or few times a month to grab some more coffee bags. Absolutely love the coffee, love the service, and love the way Oddly Correct roast their coffee beans. You should definitely stand proudly behind your coffee! Thank you for what you do and I will continue frequenting your coffee shop for the...
Read moreI was recommended this place by a number of friends, and while I was in the neighborhood i finally decided to stop by. I walked in and the baristas were not busy at all (not complaining about this however its part of the story). I walk in just wanting a small drip coffee, and the barista asks me if I placed an order online. i said no, just wanted a drip coffee to go and that was it! She said in order for me to place my order, I had to go to their website and order there. She then gave me a QR code to go to their site, and I had to put my coffee in the cart and pay for it all through their site.
This was incredibly annoying to me, as my request was very simple and the baristas had very little going on. I was so frustrated that I walked out. I was shocked by the lack of self awareness for whoever came up with the online ordering only. If its because of COVID, then why have your doors open at all? Me ordering in person and leaving will be the same amount of contact as me ordering online, walking in and grabbing my order. They couldnt just make the order for me? I was literally willing to give my money!
Can you please offer online ordering AND in person ordering? Im not asking for much here. Every single coffee shop in KC has both options, so both types of customers can be satisfied. Why are you forcing people to go one route when it takes alot longer and dissuades people? What if you dont have your phone on you? What if your phone dies? Cant order then. The rigidity blows my mind, and I wish the owner would realize that they are losing quite a bit of business by having such strict and...
Read moreOddly is a really cute and funky coffee shop and roaster. They offer a wide selection of single origin coffee and tasty blends for your daily home brews. The space is neatly decorated. I love the weird art on the walls. For a third wave coffee shop, the espresso was good. It had the standard dark cherry chocolate notes you’d expect from an espresso blend. I was hoping for more adventurous espresso shot options.
I also wanted to include details related to how they’re operating because of COVID. Compared to other businesses Oddly does a great job establishing and following procedures to protect both their guests and employees. They respectfully shared the simple rules with all guests and politely enforced them! I’m really happy to see how management has been operating and really happy to support this local business.
They limit the number of people in the cafe at one time to protect their guests and employees. All drinks are offered in to go style cups (jars + koozie) with a 1 dollar deposit. If you bring back the jar/koozie, you can have your dollar back. You’re allowed to enjoy your drink in the shop but you have a 10 min limit. After each guest leaves they clean up the area and disinfect it for the next patron. During the purchase and card exchange, our barista kept a nice distance and handled the transaction and tip on the screen per our...
