Threatening and unprofessional owners, and I would strongly recommend not supporting this business.

My wife and I were married on April 20th, 2024. As part of our wedding trip to Kansas City we booked a two night stay at the Truitt hotel on April 19th and 20th. The first night my then fiancé was going to stay with her sister, her niece and our son, and then the following night, the 20th, we would be staying at the hotel as a romantic night alone for our wedding night.

The day of the wedding, my wife and her 4 brides maids were getting ready for the wedding in the hotel room, which is a two bedroom suite with a full sized parlor, along with the hair and make-up gals, and a photographer to capture the moment. It was at this time that Ryan Hiser called my soon to be wife and began screaming at her over the phone. Saying that we were over occupancy, that we knew this was not allowed, that we will incur a $5,000 fine from the KC Fire Department, and that we were taking advantage of them. None of this was true... On their website it does give a max number of guests but these individuals were momentary visitors at best and by no stretch of the definition "guests", and even if having visitors was an issue I believe this situation could been resolved in a professional manner as opposed to hostility and threats. Additionally we received no other terms of service included in any of the confirmations we received from The Truitt. That was not the end though, after the call from Ryan there was a second call from David Tran who made similar threats before ultimately telling my wife, as she was in the middle of preparing for her wedding, that the property manager was on his way along with the fire department and if we were not out of the room then we would be facing a $5,000 fine. Obviously after that the group left, and luckily there was a family friend who lived nearby were everyone could feel safe as we adjusted plans hours prior to our big event. As a result we obviously did not feel safe returning to the hotel that evening, and instead stayed at the Crossroads Hotel (Beautiful Hotel with an excellent staff). Our second night was not refunded despite being run out of the hotel. I did not ask for a refund, but I did call the following day to voice my displeasure with the treatment my wife received, and I was expecting to be met with understanding and some level of commiseration, but instead Ryan made the same threats as the day previous. He then added to it by telling me that if I or anyone in my party posted a bad review then he would be reaching out to the KC fire department about the occupancy violation and charging my credit card a $5,000 fee. He then went on to state that if I continued to protest he would see me in Kansas City court, at which time I informed him I would consult my attorney and ended the call.

In summary, don't support this business. The owners are unprofessional and unduly hostile. When things do not go to their liking they will threaten and attempt to blackmail/strong arm their customers. I have looked at other reviews and if you do the same you will find that the owners have a pattern of being abnormally hostile toward their detractors.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. After 40 years of travelling around the world, I wanted to give my opinion on the so-called hotel The Truitt in Kansas City. I have never been received in such an inappropriate and violent manner. Despite its charming decor, this place is run by two people who should ABSOLUTELY not be in the hospitality business. A real scandal. Here are the details of my experience in this establishment:||Like every year, I visit different American cities for my work. I've got into the habit of booking my hotels through booking.com for reasons of efficiency. I had to spend a night in Kansas City, so I booked a room in a “hotel” that seemed charming and close to my appointments for the next day. But the nightmare began as soon as I arrived outside the establishment. I'd like to point out that I thought I had booked in a real hotel, and that there was no mention of contactless when I booked. My taxi left me in front of a house (at 6.45pm) whose door was closed, altough Booking said on the booking confirmation that the reception was open from 3.00 pm to 0.00 am. After several attempts, someone answered the intercom, explaining that it was a ‘contactless’ hotel but that he would come and check in in person, explaining that check in normally finished at 7pm. After waiting for 10 minutes a young man arrived and explained that I was a European diplodocus and that most hotels in America were now contactless. After asking him a few questions in an extremely polite manner about the management of the hotel (room service, staff to take suitcases up etc), the young man looked down on me and explained that none of this was available and that I'd only had to read the detailed description of the hotel before making my reservation and that I shouldn't expect anything else by only paying $160. After a few minutes of conversation, and having explained to me that all the details of the fact that the establishment was contactless and without service were specified on Booking.com and on their website (WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE, I checked later), the owners of the establishment decided that we were being rude to them (I still don't know why) and that we were not worthy of being their guests. They took our luggage and asked us to leave their establishment for no particular reason. So we found ourselves in the cold (it was -1°), without a hotel or taxi in the street, without understanding what was happening to us. The violence and aggressiveness of their reaction still leaves me speechless. Unfortunately, I can only advise against this establishment, which without its horrible owners would be a...

TL:DR: Toilet closet in room with bed, slotted doors used like a floor to ceiling saloon door? Images I posted marked as spam, so couldn't include those. No staff on sight to help as far as I could tell during my one night stay. Original review was flagged as spam with the images for some mysterious reason, reposting without images.

If you book through a third party, don't expect to receive the vital email that tells you a) where parking is, and 2) how to even access the hotel at all. Because as far as I could tell in the one night I was there...there wasn't any staff? You ring the doorbell cam and no one answers, you need to call the number listed on the little plaque hanging above the useless doorbell cam?

You get the code, hope the door doesn't argue with you too much and there's a little entry way, a little entry room with coffee and a bathroom, a hallway, and staircase leading to more rooms, and two lounge like rooms...but no people. No staff. No convenient access to help if you need it?

Honestly I think I coulda brushed all that nonsense aside until I saw the BATHROOM! In the pictures included, the tiny tiny room with the toilet is in the same room as the bed, and it has SLOTTED DOORS! As in you sit down for privacy? Naw, you can see everything. The people outside can't see everything, but that doesn't help much. The room with the shower and sinks was as big, if not bigger, than the room with the bed and toilet, so i can only imagine why they chose to place the TOILET in the rook with the bed instead of the room where a toilet belongs???? And to use those types of zero privacy doors, no less. The choice of toilet closet is what earned the Truitt my low score.

It also doesn't seem ADA accessible at all, but I haven't done any research into that, so I'm hopefully missing something. But there didn't seem to be any way to avoid stairs in the building I was in. there was even a step between the bed room and the shower room.

P.S. I posted this once the charges had been fully posted, nothing is pending, as in the room has been cleared by hotel workers and the card was appropriately charged. Any new charges that might appear will be seen as retaliatory. Something that happened to me years ago, now I'm just...
