I grew up around Gillham Park. I'm old enough to remember playing in the fountain that flowed into the pool. It's what most local skaters refer to as "The Slabs". I guess the plumbing that makes the fountain work, has been neglected for so long that it would be too expensive to fix. They would probably have to jackhammer through the cement to even get to the plumbing. I don't know, but it's a bummer. It used to attract a ton of people, I remember it as a lot of fun. Definitely a core memory for me.
They did install a new spray park, which is something I guess. I'm pretty sure I heard people have tried to use it as a toilet? Of course someone did, why am I even slightly surprised?!

Read morethe trash cans were overflowing not that people use them apparently because they just dropped their trash anywhere. It was a hot day and the splash part wasn't on. You had people driving on sidewalks and parking next to the far end where the splash is. Looks like it's a beautiful Park when it's mean when you have people being normal etiquette of throwing your trash in the trash can or putting it at least next to it and not driving or you're not supposed to be parked. I love the area maybe some...
Read moreIt has great potential to be a wonderful inner city park for families but very sadly its not maintained well, treated well or respectfully "left better than it was found" for others wanting to enjoy it with their families. It has an on going reputation for constant litter, trash thrown everywhere, and roughly mistreated equipment/use of the playground and splash park. I feel there is equal responsibility of those that use the area as well as parks and recs to have a better management of cleanliness...
