Equal Minded Café is worth your time, your attention, and your money. If not for the owner's whimsical banter and the inviting, industrial ambiance, then certainly for the food which happens to be- might I add- some of the best café fare I've had in a long while.
I would liken the food to something you could typically only find 10 or so blocks west of its location; however, the owner has landed right at the intersection of both happy AND healthy in a neighborhood where such is needed the most.
Stepping into the café, you're immediately taken aback by its breadth-- expansive piping is exposed in the tall ceilings and it is truly surprising just how airy it all feels. All of that space isn't gone to waste, rather, it is filled with an organically homie, friendly energy.
I'm instantly greeted by the owner who is generous, warm, and begins making recommendations before I even have to ask for them. The selections are quaint and concise ranging from paninis to smoothies and teas. I found myself ordering the San Francisco Melt & an iced lavender coffee (a combination I customized from their decent selection of syrups).
The sandwich consisted of roast beef, cheddar, & swiss on sourdough with a house made garlic aioli. I was greeted by the familiar grill lines on the bread that I've seen on many a franchised sandwich but boy oh boy... This was no Panera ripoff. This was a sandwich only a family member could make-- melty, cheesy, crisp around the edges, the beef was juicy and tender; however, the real star of the show was the house made aioli. You won't find another sandwich like it AS GOOD as this one. You just won't.
The coffee was the perfect accompaniment. Perfect balance of ice, cream, coffee, & lavender. I love that this space doubles as event space for the local community at an affordable rate. There are westward views of Troost which offers plenty of sunlight and metropolitan verve.

Read moreI’ve never written a review before and probably won’t be writing any others after this one, but I had to speak to the power and beauty of this place. Equal Minded operates more like a community center than a business, with a primary focus on the neighborhood and the residents therein. They provide a comfortable, safe environment to ALL people who enter through their doors while serving up some of the best dirty chai and grilled sandwiches you can get in midtown. Their menu is accommodating to vegetarian’s and vegans with a long list of alternative milks for the beverages including oat milk(alt. milks current “it girl”). You’d be hard pressed to find a more courteous or pleasant staff anywhere in the city. Honestly my only complaint is that I’m too broke to tip as fat as I’d like to, but that’s really just a beef I got with my current employer. Please check this place out if you get the chance, and if you got love for the midtown neighborhood, link up with these folks to see how you can get more involved in this...
Read moreI recently coordinated a wedding reception here & I couldn’t have been more happy with how it turned out. Don, the owner was amazing & very helpful throughout the entire process. He was there for the food trucks who arrived during our time at the reception which made our day so much easier. He let the wedding party/set up crew in to work their magic & answered all their questions. At the end of the night he was still there to help make sure we did what was needed for him to open in the morning bright and early. His easygoing nature & communication was a dream as an event coordinator! If you need a warm inviting space, a good cup of coffee, an excellent sandwich, and good vibes choose Equal Minded Cafe you won’t be...
