How has this restaurant not been on the list for KC Restaurant Week? It should DEFINITELY be on the list for 2025!
When I walked in, it felt like I had just been enfolded into a family dinner. Approximately 6-7 booths lined the room with several individual tables and chairs peppering the rest of the space. People quietly dined, while the staff worked quickly and efficiently: cooks prepared dishes in the back and waitresses welcomed and served guests up front. A long table sat in front of the cook's window lined with take-out orders, and the smells wafting from the kitchen would make anyone's mouth water.
My friend and I ordered a dinner for two which consisted of Veggie Pakora, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Rice, 2 Plain Naan, and the choice of either Kheer (a childhood favorite) or Gulab Jamun for under $50.00. We were also given complementary pakora with two different sauces when we first sat down. Needless to say, we took over half the food home. But people, the food...PHENOMENAL!
From the first bite, I deemed this restaurant the ONLY Indian restaurant I would eat at in Kansas City, and if I DID eat at any other Indian restaurant I would always compare it with this one. EVERY dish earned a rating of 9 or 10 -- some I would have given an 11or 12.
I came across Sahara Fine Indian Cuisine when a friend came to visit Kansas City the first of March. I have now been back at least 3 times. My friend called me when he returned to the East Coast and said he was dreaming about the Chicken Tikka Masala.
It is hard because as much as I feel everyone should know about Sahara, I also want to keep it to myself because I truly treasure it. You know the feeling -- you find a place that you deem your own and while you want to share how great it is, you worry by doing so it will somehow change. But, honestly, I can't keep it to myself.
Go to Sahara Fine Indian Cuisine at Tiffany Springs. You may think you are at the wrong place as you see the strip of little shops and Home Depot in the background, but trust me, you are exactly where you need to be.
I dare you to go and walk away without calling it YOUR new favorite...
Read moreMy friend and I went to Sahara Fine Indian Cuisine, for lunch today. Let me preface this review by admitting my adoration and love for Indian cuisine. T. is more of a novice with Indian cuisine. T. was absolutely astonished with how much she enjoyed the food and experience at Sahara.
T. and I arrived shortly after eleven, we were given the option to sit wherever we would like to sit, we were given ice water immediately, and provided with menus. While we were discussing what we should order, our server brought a complimentary order of Veggie Pakora with mint and tamarind chutneys. The veggie pakora were fresh, the mint chutney was nicely spiced, and the tamarind was deliciously tangy and slightly sweet.
We ordered Paneer Pakora, Lamb Makhani (this is made in the same style/sauce as Butter Chicken) mild spice level, Onion Naan, a side of Raita, and two Chai teas on ice. Our total before tip for our entire meal was just under $35 and I was shocked at how cheap their menu prices are because the food, service, quantity/quality and overall experience far exceeded the $35 price tag.
The Paneer Pakora was the best Iâve ever had. It was absolutely delicious, the paneer cheese wasnât too stiff or dry, there is a wonderful spice mixture in between the two slices of paneer, and they were fried to perfection! The Raita paired with the Paneer Pakora was wonderful.
The Lamb Makhani was fabulous. The sauce is rich and flavorful and the lamb was fork tender. I personally love lamb and do not take issue with the âgamey/robustâ flavor, but the way the lamb was cooked in the sauce made it discernibly more mild. The basmati rice was tender and flavorful and held up to the makhani.
The Onion Naan was fresh and flavorful.
Sahara Fine Indian Cuisine will be my go-to for Indian food now. They are family owned, the restaurant was spotlessly clean, the service was impeccable, and the experience...
Read moreSahara Fine Indian Cuisine is our new favorite Indian restaurant, we have visited the location a handful of times. The restaurant is smaller and has a cozy atmosphere.
We have ordered food to go and eat at the restaurant at random times between 5-7 different days of the week. Monday they are closed. No matter the time of day, someone greets us when we come in and take us to a booth within a couple of minutes from arrival.
We are quickly brought menus and drink orders are taken. The servers are always kind and quick to full water cups.
The food is absolutely amazing. Everything we have ordered is delicious. We generally pick an appetizer and 3 entrees. We always bring home leftovers.
The appetizers we recommend are: veggie pakora, veggie samosa, samosa chart, chicken pakora (favorite of my kids đ đ€©), paneer pakora (favorite of my kids đ đ€©), and fish pakora. We love all these appetizers and are working our way through the menu.
We highly recommend Naan with the meal. Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children 12 & 10) always get 2 orders of Naan. Each order of Naan is 4 slices, like wedges of a circle. We are also working through the Naan section of the menu we have tried: Naan, Garlic Naan, Paneer Naan, Aloo Naan, and Onion Naan. These are all fantastic, fresh, and hot when brought to the table. There are always 3 or 4 Naan slices left to take home and enjoy later.
The entrees we tend to pick are chicken, so I will start with all the amazing chicken dishes we have enjoyed. Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Chicken Rogan Josh, Chicken Kashmiri, and Chicken...
