I was in town for my daughter’s cheer competition at the Hyvee Arena and imagine my suprise when I saw that a brewery was only one block away! Stockyards is located in a nice, quaint area that is as mentioned, a block away from Hyvee Arena. Inside was not open due to pandemic but the patio had a nice amount of seating to enjoy beers on what was a wonderful, sunny day.
First the beer. I have to say I was very impressed with the selection and the quality of the beers. Each beer I enjoyed was clean and crisp with great flavors. You can tell that the brewers here are masters of the craft and know what they are doing.
Second, the service. The gentlmen pouring beers that day was OUTSTANDING! I am not just saying that because he used to live in St. Paul, GO TWINS. He was an extremly gracious host and I enjoyed chatting with him about his time in MN and the breweries here in the Twin Cities.
And lastly, the pace itself. As mentioned, inside was closed except for the restrooms. I did make a visit to the restrooms and I have to say I was very impressed by the place, I hope to come back soon when the inside is open for business. While I was on the patio I couldn’t help but notice the music playing, I was hooked. A quick request to Siri and I found out that the band playing was The Steeldrivers. I have never really listed to that much Bluegrass but the music stuck with me hard. I have listened to nothing since!
My visit to Stockyards Brewing left me with two take aways, a happy afternoon enjoying beer on the patio and a new found love of a new to me music genre. I am very glad I visited, the only thing that I am sad about is I did not get a t-shirt...
Read moreMy favorite brewery! Not only do they have great beer, and a great selection of tequila and whiskeys, but they also happen to be very kind people.
They are in the old stockyard exchange, where all the cattle that came through KC went to be bought, sold, and slaughtered! A piece of KC history!
Now the building is Stockyard Brewery, The Golden Ox, and a bunch of office space that I really don't know anything about.
It has a cool rustic cowboy feel with lots of nice wood-grained bar, super comfy leather stools, and a cool island sitting area across from the main bar. You can even see the brewery right down the hallway to the back room and second bar. Definitely some fresh, delicious, local beer.
It's a really cool spot. You're sleeping if you haven't been down there to at least check out one of their Sunday Service events! They have some great bands set up in the back parking lot area and jam out! They usually have a food truck of some kind in case you don't feel like eating next door. Good times folks! I highly...
Read moreStockyards Brewing Co. offers a refreshing facelift to the old Golden Ox Restaurant while still preserving and honoring the history of the old establishment and history of the area. The beer selection offers something for everyone, even some more unique flavors for those beer connoisseur wanting to try something completely new (they had a smoked pilsner recently tapped when we were there). The cocktails are as equally well made as the beer for those that enjoy an Old Fashioned every now and again. The environment is intimate, sophisticated, and cozy and the staff is very personable and professional! I'm excited to see how the area develops around this already...
