We registered for an 8:00pm time slot, and arrived per the companies suggested time of an hour before. After purchasing our tickets online, we believed they had the process more streamlined from previous years and trips to this attraction, we were quite wrong. Buying the combo tickets online essentially did nothing, except maybe skip a line of 10 people who were buying tickets on-site.
Upon arrival we were greeted with an hour wait to simply sign an online waiver that could easily be accomplished online ahead of time. After waiting an hour to sign a waiver, we then proceeded to The Beast, where we were greeted with another almost 2 hour wait time to go through the haunted house. The Beast has gone down hill. There are a lot less workers, less jump scares and less overall. I remember in certain parts years before there were many jumpscares and people within the "corn maze" area of the house, and this time there was nothing and no one, clearing cutting out staff members. They have done away with the 2nd story window jump, and replaced it with another slide, no complaints personally.
After having already waited over 3 hours at this point, and going through one house, the time was around 11:00pm, and we still had tickets for The Edge of Hell. We asked a worker if we could return another night and do the other house, which was confirmed as a viable option. However, we would still have to wait in the waiver line and repeat that part of the process. Upon hearing this we decided to upgrade our tickets to the VIP line, and skip what would be another 2 hour line. It certainly stream lined the process of entering the house and being able to get inside, perhaps worth the 30$ price at that point. Turns out, it was completely useless as the workers are incompetent at keeping any sort of schedule and rhythm to guests entering the house. About 10-15 minutes into our journey through the house we come to a complete standstill as the line has been completely stalled and backed up going throughout the house. This makes the entire experience in the house useless and ruined as there is no distance between your group and others, and you see the experiences far ahead of you. The backed up line continued on for the rest of the house, completely ruining the experience and time we had within the house. It is quite sad because that is a rather simple fix of making sure your workers understand to pace out the entrance times of the group and give each group and people the opportunity to experience the thrills and scares.
Overall, a terrible experience where we waited in 3+ hours of lines, the "timed entrance" is a complete lie, the numbers of workers and scares has dramatically gone down hill, and one haunted house was completely ruined by the inability of the workers to space out...
Read moreEach year my friend and I take our daughters to the KC Haunted Houses for my daughter's birthday. This year we went to The Beast and I must start off by saying that the actors and sets were all great! We all had a ball once we finally made it into The Beast. This is a one-star review because we waited in the pre-paid "bypass ticketing at the door" line for over TWO HOURS AND FORTY FIVE MINUTES last night, starting at 7pm, and upon finally reaching the front of the line, the problem became crystal clear. The Beast offers a $15 VIP Line Pass add-on that claims to let you "skip all lines", which is simply not true. The VIP Pass lets people who pay extra wait in a different, much shorter "VIP line". The other two lines ("pre-paid" and "pay at the door") ONLY MOVE WHEN THE VIP LINE IS EMPTY!!! The VIP line ranged from 10-100 people, and there were at least 500 people in each of the other two lines, which wrapped around the building on both sides. The problem for the two "non-VIP" lines is that any time the VIP line gets short, paid actors are sent out into those two long lines to recruit more people for the VIP line. Once we finally reached the front of the pre-paid line, we waited an additional 20 minutes while people from the VIP line were continuously ushered through. We were literally 4 feet from the metal detector at entrance, but we were not allowed to pass through with our prepaid, non-VIP tickets. Meanwhile, the VIP line kept growing longer, and the person running the metal detector entrance would not even make eye contact with all of us standing in the pre-paid line. My 14 year old daughter finally got fed up and asked the attendant when it would be our turn, and he replied, "when the VIP line is empty". After nearly 3 hours, it became clear that that might not ever happen, and so we finally barged our way into the line, along with two other groups who had been waiting just as long as us. Never in my life have I felt what it was like to be treated like a second class citizen, until last night, and it was among the most infuriating experiences of my life, and it makes my heart go out to all of those who experience such feelings regularly. It feels utterly dehumanizing. All of the people standing near us in line were equally beyond angry, and it unquestionably marred our perceptions of the wonderful performances of all of the actors inside The Beast. If The Beast wants to be honest with customers, then they need to make it known that the "pre-paid" and "pay at the door" lines will only move during rare vacancies in the VIP line, and that when there are such vacancies, the employees will be actively scouring the lines for people who want to upgrade to...

Pros: (1) 1 hour line (arrived 7:00 PM on Thursday 1 week before Halloween) vs other reviewers that had to wait 3+ hours (2) Walking through the building took 1 hour (so better value per hour than “The Exiled” in KC that cost more and lasted only 30 mins (3) Had a lot more props and better ambience (4) Most of the time we were able to move at a fairly reasonable pace and still not end up merging with the group in front of us (but the two men behind us caught up with us). But I recommend having slightly scared women/girls lead your group, because otherwise you will catch up to the group in front of you (5) The actors did a good job of trying to be scary while not being super fake/cringy (6) There was a maze-section where a good 20-30 people got stuck for some time, right at the end (7) The slide at the end was maybe a two story straight slide that was fully inside the building and led to the barbeque restaurant on the first floor - we never saw the spot where you could jump off the second story. But the slide was much better than how I imagine the spiral slide would have gone (8) The haunted house starts off with a small slide, which really helps set the mood
Info: (1) We were touched by actors twice (intentional leg grab on a couple of us, and then perhaps accidental shoulder/back touches on some fairly open sections), so be warned and don’t hurt the poor workers (2) There are many many near-pitch black sections (after losing your night vision) that involve switchbacks/u-turns. And there’s many uneven steps and spots you could potentially stumble on. So don’t bring your grandma who needs a walker (3) There’s a public parking lot south of this, right under the highway. It’s lit, free, and seems fairly nice so I recommend parking there (4) There were a few animatronics that were somewhat aged. But they didn’t really detract from the experience, and one funny situation came about when an animatronic lunged at one of our party, and he had to duck to keep from getting bopped on the head. I think that was a highlight for him
Summary: (1) I highly recommend visiting - definitely worth the experience, even though it’s not scary for...
