My husband and I wanted to write a review to inform other couples who want to use The Rumely as an event space for a wedding. The event spaces are gorgeous and offer a rustic feel. We needed little-to-no decorations and it was still a magical evening. Our issue was more with how our event was handled and several communication issues that caused frustration.
From when we first put a deposit down for the event (which was over a year in advance) our point person changed hands four times. This was extremely frustrating because we walked through what we needed in detail with one person, and then had to do the same thing with three other people. We were never told that our person had changed unless we emailed The Rumely first, and when we were promised a mock-up of our set up, we never received it. About a week before the wedding, when we did a walk-through with yet another person, they had none of the notes from our previous meetings, and we had to walk through the entire event again.
On the day of, my husband was very frustrated - the event people had set up items we did not ask for, forgot to set up tables, and set the chairs up crooked so that my husband and his groomsmen needed to redo the chairs (there was a trellis at the end of the aisle, they just needed to put the chairs in alignment with the trellis). The tables inside were not set up the way we had agreed upon either.
The woman who was supervising our event did not look happy to be there. I understand that she was simply working, but she sat in a chair at the back of the room scowling at everyone. Several of our guests inquired, and we told them to brush it off. No one got too intoxicated at our event, and we were extremely compliant with any requests she had, so we were not sure why there was that negativity. It put a damper on the feel of our special day.
Lastly, there was no communication about receiving our refundable deposit back until I emailed the event space. We SUPER cleaned the event space and were out in an hour, but no one reached out until I had emailed them inquiring about the refund about 2 weeks after our wedding. This may be a preference thing, but some sort of follow-up or ending survey should be offered to couples.
The one staff member who went above and beyond was the elevator attendant! He smiled at everyone, conversed with guests, and helped to set up for the event, even moving large tables on his own. WE LOVED...
Read moreI’ve been putting off writing reviews for my wedding vendors because I didn’t want to admit it was all over!😭 I don’t even know where to begin with The Rumely!!! It is seriously the most gorgeous space. We were lucky enough to have the entire building AND the 12th street bridge for our big day. The different areas are truly unique in their upscale antique elegance. Having lower, upper, and the bridge made the transitions from ceremony, to cocktail hour, to reception seem less.. We got SO many compliments on the venue. Each area offers its own charm and ‘wow’ factor. The bride and groom suites are large and beautifully decorated. There’s plenty of bathrooms (important if offering an open bar;)), the freight elevator makes for a stunning grand entrance, AND they have decor IN HOUSE to rent at very reasonable prices (like what am I gonna do in real life with 15 lanterns 🤣). There’s also a great large loft blocks away to host family or wedding party that was super convenient to have!!! The ONLY negative is if you’re having a summer wedding it gets pretty hot pretty fast—BUT staff addressed this quickly and diligently to make sure our guests were comfortable. And last but not least, Amber the owner, is a real sweetheart to work with. Navigating the pandemic and making a lot of hard decisions was made much easier by working with amber. I told her by the time we FINALLY got to have our wedding it felt like she was a part of my wedding party 😂 and I truly meant it! She and the rest of her staff (elevator operator, security, point person, etc.) where great with our guests and quick to address our needs. If you’re looking for a unique venue with antique glamor set with KC skyline in the background you can’t pass...
Read moreAs a wedding professional I don’t give out many reviews as I don’t want to come across as favoring other vendors, but I felt that I should show my appreciation for this venue! First of all the staff was amazing, Dave was probably the nicest guy I’ve ever met as he was constantly being positive and giving everyone compliments. The space is amazing, many of my staff have been to the venue before but it was my first visit and I was impressed at how beautiful it was and the historic look it has! I thought the location and feel was pretty cool. I must say though, the best part was when I arrived I walked the venue as I always do for first time visits and I assumed I was going to have to carry all my equipment up the stairs, dreading this I went out to my van to start and one of the staff members said “hey man, why don’t you just use the elevator” I was assuming an average elevator.... I quickly realized that was not the case when he said “just go ahead and pull your van into the elevator” what! I literally got to pull my van into the elevator and unload right into the reception area, that has to be the coolest thing I have ever experienced in the many years I have done this! To top it off, they move the wedding party between floors with this elevator making it simple to move them from upstairs to downstairs for the ceremony and back up stairs for the grand entrance! Brilliant concept! All together this was an amazing first experience for me and I just felt the need to share for anyone looking for an amazing yet...
