💛 Thelma’s Kitchen Kansas City is KC’s first pay-it-forward café! 🥗☕ Located right in the heart of Kansas City, MO, this community café lets you enjoy a fresh, homemade meal while helping others. You can pay what you can or pay it forward so someone else can enjoy a healthy meal too. 🙌 ✨ If you’re searching for unique things to do in Kansas City, best local restaurants in KC, or where to eat in Kansas City on a budget, this is a must-visit spot! 🌟 #KansasCity #KansasCityFood #KansasCityRestaurants #ThingsToDoInKansasCity #PayItForward

I was quickly greeted with a smile by the cashier, and he asked for my name. He explained how their unique "Pay it forward" operation function. The concept reminded me of the movie "Pay It Forward" which created a movement to perform random acts of kindness. The atmosphere is simple with a hint of eloquence displayed with flowers, lighting, and large windows. The meal I had was the turkey plate with scalloped potatoes and string green beans. Dessert was bread pudding and chocolate chip cookie with a choice of tea or water to drink. I found the turkey to be quite tasty. The scalloped potatoes and green beans were favorable. The portion size was not overly large, however, it was enough to satisfy a grown man. I was quite pleased with the plating of the meal. When noon time approached, the establishment started filling up. I really liked the concept "Thelma's Kitchen" is using with their "Pay it forward" motto. This gives the community a chance to give someone who is homeless, downtrodden, or having a difficult time. You know beyond a shadow of doubt that the money you are donating is going towards a good hot meal. This ties in with their slogan, "Share a meal. Build community. Pay it forward.". I highly recommend that people visit and support this good cause.

This was our 1st time here, we were given tokens to get free lunch, the staff are some of the most sweetest people🥰 The attitudes, the character I saw in being truly happy in what they were doing gave a great display towards management in keeping up the morale of each and every person working! I was very impressed to say the least! Thank you so much for the kindness showed to us🥰🥰 ( we don't eat pork and they went out of their way to make 2 turkey and cheese sandwiches for my 2 girls😍)

I went here last week and bought 5 box lunches for some very hungry people who were broke. I spent the minimum of $3 per lunch.

I was shocked. The food was healthy, fresh, fantastic proportions, it even came with a drink. This was on the level of some of the best lunch food in KC. I was utterly amazed.

As a person who grew up working in restaurants my entire life I graciously bow down to Thelma's Kitchen, you guys are really doing it, the real deal. Fast, fresh, affordable lunches that feeds everyone from the guy on the corner paying in change to the top executives in corporate offices.

Well, this place has earned kudos for life from me. I will forever sing your praises and keep coming back for your excellent service and delicious meals. You are a diamond of KC and I hope you keep shining bright and being the good. Thank you, you are an inspiration to me and I am so glad that...

Thelma's kitchen is ushering in solidarity in the community. The newly remodeled corner of 31st and Troost combines the past with the present. Offering simple and delicious food, a spin on what grandma would make. The light needs to shine on Thelma's connection to the community and the respect they show to everyone. If you can't afford a meal you will still be fed without judgement. You can make it up in a different way, by paying it forward. And to the people that come in for the delicious food and want to walk away feeling a bit better can always donate a meal for someone else. It's a wonderful beginning of what this community needs to strive for, to be better, to do...
