I love visiting new places for food and drink and living in a large, growing area like Houston, new openings are a regular part of life. One of the newer restaurants in my local area had caught my attention from the beginning, even before it opened its doors for the first time. That restaurant is Vida Mariscos.
New to the Katy area, Vida Mariscos is a chain establishment, large in size with a large parking lot. This restaurant is somewhat unique in that it combines aspects of a seafood restaurant, Mexican food restaurant, and sports bar all into one. The food offerings are, in fact, mostly seafood, but there are non- seafood options also and most entrees have a distinctly Mexican twist.
The interior of this restaurant is quite large with enough space to seat a couple hundred diners, maybe more. It overflows with televisions, so it’s a good place to go when you want to watch sports. It’s not, however, a good choice if you’re looking for a quiet lunch or dinner with few distractions. This place is big and it’s usually crowded and noisy. It’s the type of place you go if you enjoy people and their company.
Vida Mariscos has only been open a short time and with the times I have visited, the service was a little spotty and the food, while good, wasn’t great and some is pricey. I found I had to repeat myself several times to communicate my drink and food orders and not because it was loud, but rather because the wait staff was still unsure what I was asking for. And my food wasn’t as hot as I prefer. Still, I’m not going to hold these things against Vida Mariscos, at least not yet. I am confident they will work out these kinks in due time. They are typical issues I see at many new restaurants.
It's always fun to try something new. Vida Mariscos is a nice addition to the Katy restaurant scene and a place I will most certainly visit again. I like eating, drinking, and watching sports and you can do all three at Vida Mariscos. I would love to see the beer selection improve and the service could use some pointers, but it is still a good place and...
Read moreWe went Friday at 6pm trying to beat the dinner Friday Rush and we forgot about Happy Hour. Parking was pretty full. The restuarant is very colorful and cheery. Big Bar and Dining area and lots of seating all around. Music was very loud in the main dining area. They were playing that "Banda" music and everyone was talking so loud over the music so we asked to be moved closer to the windows and it was a lot quieter. Service was very efficient and quick. Sandra was our waitress and she was really good and nice. Everything you need is at the table. Lots of saladitas and they bring bolillos to the table with butter. They have a large and extensive menu with lots of seafood options and quite a few non seafood choices for people like me. We ordered the Boba mixed frozen drink and Mangonada. Both were nice but a little higher than Mambo. The food plating and presentation was very nice and food tasted very good. Prices were pretty average and in line with many other restuarants. Over all VERY pleased with service, quality, price and positive attitudes. They have been open for only about two months and is supposed to be owned by the Los Cucos owners. I thought it would be low rent like Mambo with low rent crowd that usually frequents there but was pleasantly surprised to see people from all walk of life. Varied demographics. Will highly recommend and definitely go back. I heard they were showing the fights there last night without a cover and they were pretty busy. Glad to hear this. Go...
Read moreMy GF and I went to have drinks and dinner. We told the waitress Ximena that she is allergic to shrimp and we didn’t see any other options on the menu. She recommended we ordered a bowl and substitute crab and fish for Shrimp she charges us extra without telling us. My food came before hers and when her food arrived it was full of shrimp. She didn’t check the food before bringing it out and the kitchen didn’t verify or look at the notes special instructions. I’m so glad we noticed the shrimp and saved a trip to the hospital. The male manager came to the table and said he is sorry and they took the plate to the back and removed the shrimp they had no concern for cross contamination or the food touching each other. He brings me a free appetizer for next time and tells me I’m sorry I can’t remove the dish which I never requested but would think it would be the right thing to do. I told him to keep the free appetizer and I’m disappointed in him and his team she could’ve been sick and we would have to go to the hospital. He didn’t care and left I still left a good tip and at then end of the day there is very bad communication and the managers and waitresses and the restaurant is very disorganized. The food and drinks aren’t cheap the waitresses all have sad faces no smiles like they don’t want to be there. We won’t be back I rather go to Papadeauxs at least they listen and are concerned with ther customers health...
