Barista's Daily Grind South — Restaurant in Kearney

I can never thank Barista's Daily Grind enough for the good care they gave my elderly parents in their last years. Every day, Dad would sweetly ask Mom, "Time for a latte?" and off he'd go in the Subaru with their dog, first Tag, and then later, Toby, for two coffees topped with a little whipped cream and a chocoate espresso bean, and of course, dog treats. Secretly, us kids would load up my parents’ Barista's account with dollars so they never had to go without their special coffee fix. I always loved going along with them through the drive-thru when I was in town to read the daily quote written on the outdoor chalkboard and watch the squirrels, lured close by with corn, who entertained us with their silly antics while we waited for our drinks. Barista’s servers were always so kind to my parents (and the dogs), knew their names (including the dogs), and gave them all something to look forward to. Mom passed at 91, but Dad continued making that daily trip as long as he could. Eventually, my sister took over and brought him his lattes — a highlight of his day — until he died at 96 years old. Long live Barista's! May you serve many generations of coffee...

Wow! What a lovely little coffee shop! I absolutely adore their interior - very cozy, with many different seating options. The staff were the most friendly staff I’ve encountered in a while! We were greeted immediately as we entered, and everyone was smiling and chatting with each other. Always good to see employees who don’t look miserable at their workplace! The music was quiet (which I will always appreciate!) and was a good upbeat and poppy selection. Though we were one of two groups inside, the drive through was constantly busy. They were able to get their drinks and pastries out very quickly. It’s not displayed very well, but their drink selection is HUGE! If you’re looking for something super-specific, I’m sure they could make it for you! We stopped in for a quick breakfast and coffee, and were pleasantly surprised by the drinks - the mochas are phenomenal, and the chai was very good, too! The breakfast burritos were a little salty, and weren’t the best I’ve ever had, but still very good, and ultimately served their purpose of being filling and...

After taking one bite of their Parmesan pesto bagel with savory cream cheese, I fell in love. This bagel and cream cheese is the best I’ve ever had. Their coffee was also delicious (had a latte and came back later for a frappe). I also tried their coffee cake and loved it! Overall, I feel like this place is a hidden gem. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they have a convenient double drive through!!

When I first got into Kearney, I was shocked not to see a line at Starbucks. After opting to try local and give this place a chance, I see why Starbucks isn’t busy- this place is so much better! I will stop by whenever I’m in Kearney and might make a special trip someday just to have the delicious bagels, cream cheese, baked goods and coffee. Y’all need to come to Lincoln for your next location!! 👀♥️
