Baliza BAR-BQ — Restaurant in Kearny

I wish I could give more stars to this place but I had a very uncomfortable experience in my first visit. I am not from the area, but was invited by a friend to this place for smoothies as we were walking by. I visited in 09/08 around 1:30pm. We looked at the smoothie options and changed our mind shortly after. I asked the waitress for a recommendation as there were different options for Picadinho. She said that she did not eat pork, so couldn’t tell how good was the dish that included pork. We decided to order a Picadinho(that had pork) and a couple beverages to start. Everything was perfectly fine until we received the food, which originally looked very fresh and tasty. I felt a funny smell and taste when I tried the pork. And I want to highlight that I tried a piece of the chicken and steak also but the weird smell was ONLY from the pork pieces. While a different lady (server) brought our drinks I tried to explain in Portuguese to her that the pork had a weird smell. Not so long after, the waitress approached and the other lady tried to explain the situation. I explained once again to her what had happened. She seemed confused and I offered her taking the dish if needed and check with the kitchen because the dish looked as when it was brought out. She took a sample to the kitchen and returned after a few minutes saying that she needed to take another sample. My friend and I were sitting in front of the plate watching everything happening for about 10 minutes. Waitress comes out of the kitchen and says “The kitchen and manager said that it’s good.” Then I replied that I had Picadinho multiple times in different places and even pork made in different ways and it’s not supposed to have that smell and taste (The way she replied came out as if I was making it up). For this, she replied: “I tasted it also in the kitchen and it tastes fine” and so I said: “Well, at the beginning of this whole thing you said that you didn’t eat pork and now you’re saying that you just tried it? Then you must not know how it’s supposed to taste and what smell it shouldn’t have”. I asked her to take the food back because I was not going to eat or pay for something that I don’t feel comfortable eating because of its smell. I was beyond disappointed with the customer service and attitude of this waitress. By the time this whole pork tasting finished, we were done with our juices. We wasted about 30 minutes or maybe a little more waiting for the food, then waiting for the pork tasting. We paid for our juices and a bottle water and left. I am sure they must have goodies in their menu but after this experience I wouldn’t risk to order for delivery or dine in if I’m in the area after this experience. The service is horrible! These woman that work there and take the orders act as if they own the place and they also lie and tell you that they do own the place when they treat you badly and shoo you out the door as if you have no rights. They feel like they can serve you what they want and you do not have the right to protest. The attitude is just uncalled for. I had one request and I asked politely to look at the ribs before they packed them up to make sure they looked satisfactory to me. I explained that the last time I placed the same order and they gave me an order of ribs with rice and fries but the ribs were tiny burned and had a very small amount of meat on them. Now when I say the order, I do not mean one or a few ribs were this way. No I mean every rib in the order was burned tiny and hardly had any meat on them. The problem was that I only noticed when I got home and due to personal reasons I was unable to go back and say anything about this crazy order so that evening I basicly ate overpriced rice and fries and that was just not right. So this time I wanted to make sure that would not happen again but this crazy woman screamed and told me that the order came as it came and I had no say in it. She treated me as if I had no rights even though I am the customer and I am the one paying. This woman was so abnoxious and condesending and when I asked for the manager or owner she said she was the owner and told me to leave. I responded with the same tone to defend myself before I left. Not one person had the sence to tell this woman that her behavior was inapropropriate, instead they joined in with her. Monkey see monkey do, and all of them together acted very unprofessional and disrespectful twoards me. This place is trashy, they seem to cater to men and treat woman teribly. The bar had a few men and one was so drunk he actually walked into me while I was standing still, when I first walked in. I will never go back and frankly I don't know why anyone would go somewhere with horrible food and even worse service. I will be placing complaints with BBB and other agencies. I’ve only been here twice and the second time I ordered the pork cube special to go and when I got home there was no rice or French fries just meat so I thought they had forgot to give it to me so I called and said I didn’t get my rice or French fries the lady said no that doesn’t come with that mind you this is a $25 tray and in their menu it states all orders come with rice and French fries I told the lady what their menu said and SHE EVEN AGREED WITH ME but still didn’t want to give me my rice and French fries.
