Oh! Calamares — Restaurant in Kearny

I really hope what they say isn't true because our experience was amazing I'd hate for such an awesome place to do such awful things... so here's our experience. We ordered the Sangria azul chicha morada to start. We also ordered seco norteno, arroz con mariscos and lomo saltado for main dishes. The blue sangria was different (blu Curacao). cancha!!! Yum!!! We also got Anticuchos as appetizers . It came with 2 sticks small portion of potato and maiz but surprisingly perfectly proportional. Smelled so good served on hot skillet. I asked medium rare cooked perfect temperature it was Soo good amazing flavor deep and a tiny bit earthy. Pescado a lo macho was very salty but great with plain rice fish was so flaky it feel apart in ur mouth. The Ceviche was the real deal, fresh lime maiz and fish perfectly cut. They used a yellow white yam/sweet potato that was so sweet perfect texture not fruity or stringy red onion not bitter. Huge portion. Arroz con mariscos arroz verde de cilantro moist not dry soft calamari great mussels perfect balance of flavors couldn't taste the bell peppers like some others. Seco was just ok. Tallarín huancaína Best I've had I normally make mine super cheesy but this wasn't super cheesy and still was perfect. It was So creamy w aji Amarillo but not spicy perfect blend of flavor and creaminess no cheese but didn't need anything at all! Huge portions holy shit best churro ever w dulce de leche. Lúcuma ice cream I've been dreaming of even the flower was edible and sweet every place I've been state side that says they have lúcuma ice cream has been soooo gross except here! The service was impeccable. The place was spotless and the bathrooms were spotless as they had just finished being cleaned when we got there. Owner even came and sat with us...

Food was good but I had several issues with the service. The waiters were fine for the most part but failed to mention that the plate I had ordered was a different price than what was on the physical menu and online. Once I saw the dollar difference on the bill I kindly asked the waitress to confirm the price as I’m sure I saw it for cheaper. I waited and the manager came back saying that they had changed prices and had failed to update them, and asked if I could pay the new price even tho again there was no mention of this price update anywhere nor was it told to me. I told the manager I wasn’t paying extra for something that was not my fault, especially after they admitted fault. She was visibly taken aback and a few minutes later another server came back with the updated check. After waiting a comical amount of time (there was only one other occupied table at the moment and they had gotten there long before me) I was annoyed that all waiters had been hanging around and talking/joking while I continued to wait for them to pick up my card to pay. After a ridiculous amount of time I went over to the manager and told her I was ready to pay. She seemed surprised I had gotten up and immediately handed it over to the cashier. I came all the way from Paterson. Place had a live musical of traditional songs that was enjoyable. From the menu I order two different cocktails that they didnt have but only one type of cocktail. They didnt have chicha morada or Inca kola which are popular Peruvian drinks. The waitress only offered beer, pisco sour and other local sodas. I order 2 appetizers and and 1 entree. It took around 30 mints to get first appetizer. I slowly finished it and still didnt have other appetizer and entree. Then the waitress came and told they just had told her there was no beans that go along with the entree. I told her that I didnt want the other app if the entree was coming along with it so she end up just bringing the entree. After 45 mints or so I was eating my entree which eventhough wasnt bad I could tell it wasnt made the traditional way since it didnt have the classic flavor of a "seco a la norteña". She said she would offer me a beer since there was no beans. I asked for the check, she brought it with the app the she never brought me so I had to wait again for her to correct it and come back.
