I visited BJ’s in Kearny yesterday around 3:00 PM, and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience at Register 5 that I feel needs to be addressed.
After waiting in line for over 45 minutes—which I didn’t mind, especially since I was shopping with my daughter who was being great—I finally reached the register and began placing my items on the conveyor belt. As I was doing so, I reached under my cart to grab a few larger items like soda, meat, and a box of snacks. The cashier quickly approached me and told me I could leave the soda and boxes in the cart, and only needed to place the meat and produce on the belt. I said, “Okay, ma’am,” and continued reorganizing my cart to prepare for loading it back up properly.
Despite following her instructions, she came over again, this time reacting negatively as I moved a box from under the cart into the main part of the cart for easier access. I tried to explain that I was simply organizing things so I wouldn’t forget anything, and that I suffer from OCD, which makes organization important for me. I shouldn’t have to explain that to anyone—but I did, calmly and respectfully.
Her response? She dismissively told me she wouldn’t forget what was under my cart. The tone and attitude were completely unnecessary. I then told her that if she had an issue, I was happy to move to another register. She responded by saying I was the one with the attitude—when in fact, she had been rude since I walked up.
To make matters worse, while she was focused on correcting me, the customer ahead of me almost left without paying. She then began speaking about the situation to another coworker while I was still standing there, which was not only unprofessional, but blatantly disrespectful.
This experience was incredibly disappointing. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect basic customer service and respect. A little kindness goes a long way—especially in a...
Read moreI had never been to BJ's prior to this experience. The initial experience was very nice, welcoming and the atmosphere was very motivated and energetic. The second time back the cashier was horrible. After walking through the store and being persuaded by the marketing vendors and being excited to use the manufacturers coupons coupled with store coupons for additional savings ... WELL! I get to the register and I am trying to be helpful and show her what coupons go with what product and then I am telling her about the savings that the vendor informed me of.. Her response... " I never heard of that" every coupon I handed her, she had something negative to say and at one point I purchased Lysol Wipes and just knew that I saw a coupon in the book. When I explained to her that I was looking through the book for the coupon.. Her response... " No need to do that the coupon is for Clorox wipes" Finally I just lost it because every thing I told her she acted like she did not want to honor the coupon.. Like it was coming out of her paycheck or there was an incentive not to save the customer money.. I told her "Listen every coupon I hand you, you have something negative to say.. You are supposed to be supportive of the customer saving a few dollars". I told her that she was the most negative experience I have had since I had entered the building... Her response... " No! I am not saying anything negative at all, I am going to honor the coupon. don't worry! Her whole attitude changed when I was obviously upset.. I was even more upset when I got home and had the time to look through the book and found a coupon for $1.50 off of the LYSOL Wipes.. I can't say that I wont visit BJ's again because I love the store. I just will NEVER go to that cashier again... BJ's overall is a very FRIENDLY and WELCOMING place to shop, Perhaps, this is why she sticks out like a...
Read moreHello,
My review is on a refund issue that’s been going for more than a month.
I just received a call from the BJ's Kearny, NJ location. The individual named Shadara asked me to once again repeat the reason for my return which I have done numerous numerous times. Apparently the ticketing system being used to field issues, concerns, refunds etc lacks efficiency.
Nevertheless, she proceeded to ask me the same question that has continuously been asked of me, was the item purchased in store, what item. I provided all the information for the 11th time and she then proceeded to say the item was opened we cannot accept it.
My qualm is obviously I had to open it in order to use it, additionally it was only when I attempted to use when I was faced with the defectiveness. As I have repeatedly mentioned my first attempt was I reached out to Turbo Tax Support and they advised it was defective and as it was purchased in a store I would need to return the item to the merchant.
Which is what I attempted to do, when faced with the rude, dismissiveness and quite frankly unprofessional response from the individual at the customer service counter.
At the point, what really to me is the unprofessionalism and incompetency of the staff, the repetitive and ignorant questions. I am going to resign with just filing a complaint with the better business bureau, corporate office, google/yelp review platforms etc.
I work in advertising and the unprofessionalism and run around that has been extended to me is quite...
