I'll try and make a long story short. My fiancée (now wife) and I were wondering a wedding expo looking for ideas on how to make our special day more fun, exciting and unique. Walking up an aisle, we noticed a small cart near the door, with two people standing behind it with a colorful cow on it. In a room full of exciting music, beautiful dresses, and makeup tutorials, it stood out as quite the oddity. I had to approach and see what the deal was, and was surprised to find a gelato cart.
We knew immediately we had found something to make our day stand out! After talking with the crew for a while and getting business details, we walked away knowing we were going to have them at our wedding.
I cannot speak more highly of Elijah and his willingness to make sure our day went perfectly. Or... at least what he was tasked with. We made a special trip up to try out some different flavors (though I never did get my peanut butter...), and the whole experience was amazing. He met special with us and gave us a quick tour of their place, the process, the science, and several tastings. We had a good long hour talk, where we went back and forth to make sure we had the details nailed down, and the flavors picked.
Our big day came, we said our "I do's" and I still remembering smiling when I saw that colorful cow in the corner of our reception hall. I still feel horrible that I didn't get a better chance to speak with him, but I can say that everyone raved about the gelato.
Its something small and silly, and may even be a bit hyperbole, but I really don't think our special day would have been the same without Elijah and Frisky Cow's gelato! I cannot speak anymore highly of his care and attentiveness to make sure he provided what he could for us, and willingness to drive an hour and half to provide our guests with their amazing gelato. My friends and family still rave about the amazing flavors.
A five star score to means me perfection. It means not only having an amazing product worthy of attention, it also is a measure of the attentiveness of the owners and employees, and their willingness to go an extra step to serve their customers. We asked a bit more of them when we asked them to head our cocktail hour after the ceremony, and before the reception, but they absolutely delivered. I cannot, with anymore emphasis, recommend them. For a fun day of sweet and creamy gelato, to having them come down and provide for a bunch of idiots before they make complete fools of themselves, they absolutely deliver.
Thank you Frisky Cow for making our day as...
Read moreI don't remember how I found Frisky Cow, but I'm glad I did. Linda discovered gelato on a trip to Italy and caught the bug, bad. She made it her mission to bring gelato to NH and she has succeeded.
There's no point talking about flavors, because they change all the time, and every one I have tried is delicious. Everything is made with fresh and local (where possible) ingredients, and it shows. The gelato is always tasty and perfectly made.
Unfortunately it also shows in the price. Quality gelato isn't cheap! This is probably OK, though. I've been to Italy a handful of times, and I usually had gelato twice a day while there. You can gain a surprising amount of weight doing that. Frisky Cow's prices keep my visits down to a reasonably healthy level.
At the scoop shop on Krif Rd. you'll often be served by the owner herself, or a family member. No matter who is working the cart, they are always friendly and patient while you struggle to decide what flavor to order. Samples are available to help you figure it out.
This is a gelato shop, not an ice cream parlor. You aren't going to get a milkshake, a banana split, hot fudge or whipped cream. You don't need that junk anyhow, the gelato shines all on its own.
The space is small, with just a few tables. There are often a few seats outside. Keep in mind the scoop shop is a small room fronting the gelato production facility. You're here for the gelato, though, and maybe the tie-dyed T-shirts, not the atmosphere.
If you're a cyclist, this joint is frighteningly close to the Ashuelot Rail Trail, just South of the KSC sports fields.
My only wish is that Frisky Cow made some of the boozy gelato flavors I found in Italy, but I suspect NH state laws make that difficult or impossible. So much for 'live free', huh, if you can't even sell a properly alcoholic rum raisin gelato here.
Stop reading this and go get a scoop already. You'll be...
Read moreMy family and I are doing the 2021 NH ice cream trail, and this is one of the places that was on the list. Prior to here we were at Life Is Sweet in Keene and they were rude so when we got to Frisky Cow Gelato, they were really welcoming. My mom and I had Strawberry Almond and Maple with Wet Walnuts combo and they both were delicious! If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the Maple with Wet Walnuts. I met the owner and we just had a conversation like we were just two friends talking like we knew each other, that's the kind of vibe I look for in places I want to support. I wish her all of the best and next time I'm up in Keene, I will stop in for a visit because I love me some GREAT Gelato! Speaking of ice cream, I just made dairy free hot damn tamale ice cream! (She knows I make my own ice cream and I'm lactose) just waiting for mixture to be chilled then in my ice cream machine it goes! P.S. I still love ice cream however, the trail journey is not over yet so we'll see...
