American Melts — Restaurant in Kenilworth

This is going to be an odd 5 star review, but hear me out. I've visited American Melts on several occasions and can honestly say they make the best grilled cheese and even best grilled sandwich I've ever had! I particularly like when a food provider specializes in 1 thing and knows how to take that to a new level (think of the "Fat Sandwich" places in New Brunswick, Hot Dog places throughout the state or Gourmet Pizza all over).

On my last visit I had a problem where I was given the wrong order. My only quibble was I called to let them know the situation and returned to pick up the correct order. When I got there the owner accused me of being at fault. Without getting into details, I KNOW I wasn't at fault, but I will chalk it up to probability the owner misheard me when I got there. The bottom line is I'm not going to even take 1 star off this review because they consistently deliver a superior product and I only hope they see this to know that they could do a better job in their customer service in the off chance they have a mix-up in the future.

I love this place. A nice little place where you can sit outside, it feels like a picnic. Also, the food is terrific! Sometimes you can build your own sandwiches, which I think is wonderful!

The service is very friendly (just don't run into the current owner, he is not friendly at all. I think they had a different owner a few years ago who was much kinder and caring)! They may not always stay true to their business hours every day, and the current (not former) owner may be impatient and crabby, but this place is always worth five stars.

At first I had an unpleasant day there once, being sent away five minutes before the time they closed. But I'm glad I gave them a second chance. The employees were much friendlier to me, and the food (as always) were perfect. Five stars...

American Melts off of Route 22 in Kennelworth, NJ is the place to be. easy parking, walk up to the window and check out the menu's multiple types of sandwiches they make. Start by creating your own if your not in a rush. Check out the Special sandwich menu that includes the Mac and cheese, Brie, Ruben, Big Tex and so on. You won't be disappointed. They even include Vegan options as well. You can order online for easy pickup and they're open 7 days a week. We love the create your own grill cheese process as well. The tater tots and Mac and cheese are pretty impressive to. Plenty of breads to choose from including "Gluten free" items. Highly recommended....
