Very bad experience with this restaurant. It was around 2 p.m. Only 3 tables occupied and 2 waitresses. Extremely poor service. Table of 7. Leslie, our waitress, forgot to order my daughter's veal parmigiana. So everyone got their food except the 8-year-old. Needless to say nobody wanted to eat until she got hers. Then, they return within about 5 minutes of discovering Leslie forgot to place the order to the kitchen with a plate of uncooked, very rubbery veal, which had to be sent back again. Third time around was not that much better, still slightly under cooked with the breaded part completely separate from the veal. Boxed it up and threw in the trash. Waste of money. Then, I placed a fried chicken to go order at the beginning of ordering for everyone and she completely forgot to place this order to the kitchen as well. She said, "Oh, I guess I forgot. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes to make." Again, very disappointed. Told her no because didn't have the time to wait another 20 minutes to fix her mistake and probably have the chicken come back half cooked anyway since they would be in such a rush. We had to ask for a refill every single time someone at the table needed one. She never did refill any drinks without being asked to. Again, remind you she had 1, maybe 2 tables at the most to take care of. Spoke with the manager who knows us because we are regular customers. Told her I did not feel like I should have to pay $26 in a tip because the service was so poor. She said nothing she could do because the menu says you have to pay 20% tip for a table of 7 and that the register rings up at an automatic 20% for a table of 7. Did not even apologize for all the screw ups. Actually, could not have cared less that we were her regular customers. Did not make a difference to her at all. So, now once one of my favorite restaurants but will never, never go there again! Shame on waitress, Leslie, and the...
Read moreMe and my son had been working in the hot sun all day. We were heading home and he asked if we could stop at Mr. Ed's and get Poboys. I said sure. I got the shrimp and he got the roast beef. We ordered a large side of potato salad. We pulled up and went to the bar to pick up our order.. the staff was friendly and there was basically no wait to get our food. I tipped $4 on a 36 dollar order. Now mind you there was a subway next door and I am not rich. We could have combos from there for under $20 but my son wanted Mr. Ed's. He had worked hard in the hot sun so we went to Mr. Ed's.
We took out food and went home. We broke open the poboys and took a couple of bites. Both poboys were very good. I opened our container of large potato salad and was very disappointed to find the large container was barely half full. The potato salad cost $5, I didn't know if that was all you get or what?
I called the restaurant and spoke with a very friendly young lady and explained to her the situation. She went to check if the amount in the container was right or it had not been filled. A short time later she got back on the line and apologized and said it I wasn't far away they would happy to fill the container or give me a new one. We had been in the sun all day and were exhausted so I declined the offer to return.
My complaint is that the person who prepared the order knew they were filling a large container and you can clearly see on the order receipt that it is a large container. But they barely filled it. So essentially I paid $9 for barely half. It is just very disappointing.
Still the food and staff were good. Just hate that I had this happen at a place I like. I could have saved money and just...
Read moreI’ve been to Mr Ed’s for lunch several times over the past few years and always had a good meal, but THIS meal and experience took my appreciation of this local chain to a whole new level. We visited the West Esplanade location (the original restaurant, we were told) for dinner. Hungry for some authentic Cajun food, this certainly did not disappoint. The space is clean and decorated. Four-top tables are spread throughout the dining area. There was a bar area. Ronald was our waiter and he would be worth the visit, even if the food wasn’t over the top, like it is. Ronald is engaging and informative, suggesting dishes that did not disappoint. We started with the crawfish spinach bread on brioche bread {{insert angelic voices}} don’t miss this, if it’s available. Next a cup of fresh turtle soup with a splash of sherry. Dark and rich - this compares to the best restaurants in NO - and would probably win. For $7 a cup, this would be priced much higher just across town. Ronald had highly recommended the house made blue cheese dressing on our salads. I am not a blue cheese fan - but decided to listen to his recommendation and WOW! That dressing was over the top amazing! We ordered the local trout meunière which was HUGE and fantastic taste. Our other dish was grilled shrimp with new potatoes and broccoli. Oh how I wish we would have had room to try their desserts but we were too stuffed. Don’t miss this local jewel. Amazing food and service. If you’re craving a poboy, I do happen to know from previous visits that their shrimp poboy is the best...
