My friends and I gave Playa Mia a try for dinner tonight and we were very disappointed.
First the hostess took us to a table that was dirty with tomato chunks and set the menus down and we had to ask to be seated at a clean table.
We each ordered a margarita and they did not taste like they had any tequila in them. I’m not trying to get trashed, just would like to know there is tequila in my drink. Someone came by to ask us how our meal was and when we mentioned they margaritas were lacking tequila, he mentioned something about the tequila they use and then walked away. He never returned.
Two people in our party ordered the shrimp, steak, and chicken fajitas. All of the meat was very dry. They gave a side of rice and salad with the fajitas, but there was no dressing with the salad and we weren’t sure what to do with it or how it went with the fajitas. My pescado tacos were good. The slaw they came with was an interesting choice.
When we were ready to check out, we had to go the front but the woman who was the cashier had to look through the menu to find the price to charge us.
It was a very odd experience. It still looks like Mitzel’s inside. The booths are the same, which are very aged and need a sweater shaver taken to them to remove the fabric pilling.
For the prices they are charging I was expecting...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this place. They're new so wanted to try out a seafood specialty Mexican restaurant. Had the shrimp ceviche tostada (to try as an appetizer despite it being a tostada) and shrimp quesadilla. My mother had the shrimp 'hamburger' since there is no actual beef burger (like most mexican restaurants have for those who don't want mexican, lol). Shrimp was plump, not overcooked, not overseasoned and very generous portions. Definitely loved the meals (took most of it home since I was trying multiple dishes) and think it was worth the price since the seafood was large and generous (and not some overly chopped up mix that isn't recognizable). My mother isn't a mexican food type person but she loved the 'shrimp' hamburger and it was also generous. Later, I might try a fish ceviche but the picture worried me, as it looked like that shredded mix garbage that I had at two other restaurants (so I don't go to them anymore). Still, so far, so good. I hope they get a lot of business BUT don't start skimping on quality or portions. Fingers crossed! Only downside was the cost of our sodas, very very high and no...
Read morePlace was a little off from the get go. We noticed that every single plant that was around the building was fake. But my wife is Mexican and we love trying New Mexican places. The service was very average. Our server didn’t smile one single time and she seemed annoyed to even have to serve us. We order two Pina Coladas (virgin, we don’t drink) and when we got the bill they were $26 EACH!!!! The food was average and little over priced but that is normal for this area (price wise) I just couldn’t believe the virgin drink was that much. I would assume you would get a high quality alcohol for that amount. Anyways, we definitely won’t be coming back there again. Also, they had the music going so loud that you couldn’t even speak to someone next to you. I would understand if it was live music but it wasn’t. It was just coming...
