We had spent a few days in Fredericksburg, Ingram and Kerrville and had an opportunity to try out several cuisines. Of course, it was the customary Mexican/Tex-Mex option that was pending and we decided to try Mamacita's. Boy, it was one of our best decisions!!! Everything from location, parking, ambience to service was top notch. The fact that we are vegetarians did not in any way impede in us tasting the delicacies in what I would assume was in its true essence.

Parking: There is sufficient parking space available in the complex and you don't have to park across or find parking on the road. We visited on a weekend for lunch and we still could find enough empty spots.

Ambience: It is themed like a small town in Mexico and is really done tastefully.

Service: Excellent and prompt service. We were asked by the host to wait for few minutes until our seat was ready and shown to our table in about 5 minutes. I would advise to call in advance and make reservations if going out for dinner just having to avoid too much of a wait time. Our server knew what options could be made vegetarian and recommended great options. We also enjoyed some good cocktails and beer.

Kids: This was a great kid friendly place as it had a small nook with few arcade games. It would probably nice to keep the kids engaged there until food is served up. There was also a live tortilla making machine that can be seen through a glass. I was more amazed than my son and enjoyed observing the process of making fresh tortilla in a modern machine rather than by hand.

Food: As earlier mentioned, we ordered vegetarian food and everything was served as we had requested and loved everything. The portions were good sized so you could eat to your...

I’ve been coming here for 20+ years, like most people in Kerrville. Since having moved here, we go about once a month. They seemed to have gone through a 6-month stretch where service wasn’t up to par. Lots of delays and out of sync. The last several times we’ve been, however, since mid-summer, it’s back to its old machine-like efficiency. The food quality has never wavered IMO.

[update 4/8/2021]

Mamacita’s still is the pillar of Kerrville dining in many ways. Sitting near the Five Points intersection, it feels in some ways to be more of the center of town than Water and Earl Garrett, whose intersection is largely quiet at night.

Mamacita’s is always hopping. Their staff is consistently high quality. The consistent “rhythm” of the service — salsa bowls and silverware down, chips and salsa down, drink orders and delivery, and finally food orders and delivery — make the feel comfortably predictable.

And then there’s the food. I’ve always gone with the chicken chimichanga, with queso on top instead of ranchero. Last night I was feeling wild and instead got the quesadilla with chicken fajita. Fantastic. And a heaping plate. My son got the burger which, for a Mexican restaurant, he said was quite good. My wife has been going with the nachos al carbon. The fajitas, of course, are great. (The one hitch for us is that we never know how to describe accurately that we want the onions and green peppers seared/blackened and not just made translucent and definitely not carmelized.) We always have leftovers.

My son also got the red velvet cake. We rarely have room for dessert, but even a bite or two told me we should leave room...

I was kinda shocked when I walked in and was told it would be a 45 minute wait. But then I’m not usually here on a Friday night. I almost went to another restaurant but my table was ready after 30 minutes. I’ve been here many times and just the building alone is worth giving it a try. The architecture is a must see. What other Mexican restaurant has Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, and an arcade! It’s definitely a destination.

I’m a Mexican food fan and I’ve probably eaten more of it than any other cuisine. The chips were not super thin neither were they super thick. Kind of in between. They were not very flavorful. The salsa is fresh & decent but doesn’t make me crave it. They also bring out a bowl of green sour creamy tomatoey sauce that gives you something cool to balance the salsa. I would say the pre-meal salsa fixing are above average.

Over the years I’ve tried fajitas, enchiladas, and combination meals but today I tried the Carne Guisada. I’m not a carne guisada expert but this was good enough to make me try it again somewhere else. My sister has made it before and this was very flavorful. It’s chunks of beef in a mild gravy that you eat with the fresh flour tortillas. It came with a side of charro beans, rice, and guacamole. The portions are huge and judged on the portions alone this would be a 5 star restaurant. The food borders on really, really good but to me falls short of great, amazing, and awe inspiring foodie fare.

So to answer the ultimate question, “Will I come back?” I definitely will and I will probably be ordering a steaming plate of...
