Oriental Cafe — Restaurant in Killeen

I give it 5 stars in comparison to Panda Express whose offerings most resemble Oriental Cafe. In all ways Oriental Cafe is better. Huge portions, greater variety and fairly priced. There are no extra charges for beef dishes. If you're in the mood for Panda Express, do yourself a favor and come here instead. The food is typical American Chinese style. It's bland compared to authentic Chinese food. It lacks the deep, heavy spices typical of Chinese food like ginger, garlic, 5 spice, but that's pretty much true for all Chinese places around here, so I can't knock them for it. I’m not gonna bash the place, because normally it’s a good place to go for a quick, decent meal...and I try hard not to leave negative reviews...but most of the time a 1-star review is the only thing that gets people’s attention. If this is an actual policy, people need to know.

Google shows business stays open until 9m on Friday. I walked in at 8:25 to be notified there were only 3 things on the menu as they stop cooking at 8. I asked “even rice and noodles?” and was explained again that they stop cooking all items at 8. No sides available, only food that has obviously been sitting there for at least 25 minutes already. I declined.

I can understand if I showed up at 8:50. But this is 8:25 and there was only 3 items.

Chinese food in Killeen is not even close to Chinese food. If I were Chinese I'd be insulted. It's like how there's Samoans cooking in a Hawaiian restaurant, or Koreans in a Japanese restaurant (you get my point). That's what you get in this town. Anyone who claims this is good Chinese is ignorant or doesn't know any better. The orange chicken tastes exactly like the sesame chicken as well as the General Tso's chicken. It's unfortunate to be in town that takes so little pride in their food.
