I recently moved to Temple and have seen Petty's BBQ commercials on tv! Well, I'm out of Dallas, whereas, we can buy BBQ until 2 a.m. first off. Everything around here primarily closes between 7-8 p.m. Today, I called my nephew and said, "Let's drive to Killeen and find Petty's BBQ". Disaster!!! I was inquiring about the ribs and saw a 1/2 lb. is $5.99 and $10.99 a pound on the menu, OK I'm still good with that. There were 2 guys there, a tall guy on the register with a moustache and a slender guy cutting the meats. I asked how many ribs (guessing) would be equivalent to a 1/2 lb and was told that since they go buy the pound, 2 ribs (not very big!!!) would be 1/2 pound and as he showed me the ribs (it looked to be about 6-7 ribs) I asked how much is that pound wise? The slender guy said "Probably 2-1/2 lbs" and he weighed it and said "Yep 2-1/2 lbs!" Well as I added the cost, I said that would cost me $22.00+? So I ordered the links 1/2 lb. hot and 1/2 lb mild. I've never seen links cut in small slices for $12. 00 roughly! Out of sight!!! Guess I'll continue to BBQ my own (and I can cook), or will go to Round Rock/Austin! Thanks, but no thanks! You ALL are being ripped off! 2 ribs...
Read moreExtremely friendly people and quick service. Just don't eat here. Not sure how they got 4.3 Stars. I read the bad reviews and they matched our experience. Chicken was great. The "moist" brisket for all 3 of us was dry. Pulled pork and pork ribs were dry as well. Perhaps they expect customers to pour sauce over everything as the food doesn't stand on its own. Baked Mac n Cheese was flavorless. Cabbage side dish was overcooked and mushy. Cucumber kimchi was just sad. Potato salad was very sweet for those who like that. On several cases, we took one bite of different things and stopped. We threw away more food than we ate as we just didn't want to eat anymore. Be known that the banana pudding desserts are Jello Brand, and certainly not up to a restaurant quality. I think we did a disservice not telling them how bad most of the dishes were. I would expect this level of BBQ perhaps in California and not Texas, but we haven't had BBQ this bad in California either. I don't think it's not for trying, just not that good intentions are enough and perhaps some lessons in BBQ making are needed. Will not be back and will make sure our friends know...
Read moreWOW! I heard about pettys bbq from a coworker last summer and didn't believe how good she said it was. I'm so disappointed I waited until today to try it! I thought if it was even half as good as everyone said I would be okay with that. Mannnnnn when I tell you this is the BEST BBQ in Killeen I'm not lying. I've lived in Killeen for 21 years, I wasn't that impressed with the BBQ here until I finally had pettys. The brisket was PERFECT. The ribs were so tender and juicy & seasoned just right. Even down to the sides, the macaroni was the best hand made macaroni I have come across in a restaurant. The potato salad was amazing. My boyfriend doesn't really care for green beans but he loved the ones from here! Idk if the cook is a magician or what but it's ridiculous how delicious everything tasted. I feel like most BBQ places are over priced, but not here! I ordered the strangler wrangler (you chose what 2 meats and 2 sides you get for $11) and was surprised with the generous portions. My boyfriend and I shared the plate and we were both full. I will definitely recommend this place and keep...
