N the kitchen here with a food review at Taquerias in Killeen Tx. Walking in the scene is ...acceptable for a restaurant bosting its latino heritage. Vibrant colors of aquamarine, tangerine, blues and yellows fill the eye and tease the stomach of promises yet to come.
The hosts will cheerfully greet u and say u can sit anywhere you like. Upon seating yourself you're delivered the customary chips and salsa and with it, the first lack luster experience of your stay. The chips are fine as far as chips go, not too thick nor too thin, a good amount of salt, yet not overly so. The salsa while it carries a good amount of onion and cilantro flavor with a small hiss of heat, lacks any texture whatsoever. It could have come from a grocery store.
My entire for today was Taquerias beef fajita nachos which you're right is technically an appetizer but I was eating it as a main. The order was assembled, prepared, and served rather promptly which is fantastic! The nachos however were NOT. The plate was plentiful with toppings of guacamole, tomatoes, cheese, beans, and " beef fajita " and invited you to dig in. Chrunchy? Yes. Cheesy? Yes. You get the contrast from the crunch of the chip with the soft texture of refried bean and the guacamole, and then something very chewy........the beef fajita. This is where my whole dinning experience went down the toliet.
After my first nacho I tried a few different selections of the Carne asada from around the plate, it could have just been an unlucky bite. But the conclusion was the same with every attempt. Dry, unseasoned, chewy almost rubbery meat. I inquired if this was the same meat they always use, or perhaps they use a cheaper cut for their nachos...u know like cube steak for example..but no, this pale excuse for an exceptional meat is what the call fajitas. So...it is with a heavy heart and empty stomach as I did not further punish my palate with such dissatisfying food, and sent my order back that I write this review.
1 being have a sandwich instead and 5 being check this out before you die!

Read moreWe went out on Mothers day as a group of 11 as I didn't want to have to cook. I called ahead of time to let them know we would be in at 6:45, and we would like to be away from the front door, and to give them a heads up (courtesy). We arrived 5 min early and waited about 15 min to get our table, no big deal. However when we walked in we were right in front of the door. I told her we asked to NOT be by the door, she continued on as if she didn't hear us. We just went with it and sat down. We were deciding on drinks and our orders and told the server we needed time to decide. When placing my order I specifically asked if the enchiladas were corn. He assured me that they were flour. I said if they are corn I will order something else. He said no repeatedly they will be flour. Our food came out and only part came out. Then when my food came it low and behold it was CORN! The manager delivered it and I asked if they were corn he said yes. I told him I asked for flour. He immediately turned and walked away. My entire family ate their meals and still no food. The manager came out and tried to bring my food however my family was done. Instead of walking away and apologizing he started cussing and took the food back to the kitchen. We had to ask multiple times for them to refill drinks , throughout their meal for the manager to say I'm sorry your server had a asthma attack. When I ask him if he is feeling better he said nothing was wrong. Long story short, the service was terrible, I can't speak for the food as we were leaving when mine came. Manager was VERY unprofessional, and has NO clue how to handle a mistake on their part. We won't return as this was a very expensive meal for our family and to have to leave without eating was...
