This is a local gem. When I was a young kid and stayed with my grandfather for summer break on my last day before I went back home to Georgia, he would take me to Zips to get their Strawberry Shortcake. It was such a great tradition. Well I was in town visiting and wanted to let my kids try it. It's been years since I have been to Zips. Such a Classic Silver diner, that looks like it came right out of a 50's movie. You can even still drop 2 quarter's in the table side Juke box and listen to some tunes. We ordered a couple of shortcakes, a milkshake and a slice of Oreo Cream pie. The shortcake brought back a flood of childhood memories and it still tasted the same. Very few places still do the Bisquick Shortcake. Little crunchy warmed and soaked with the strawberry sauce, with a good helping of strawberries and then with cream on top.. I High-Five you Zips for not changing a classic and thank the dessert gods that blessed you with this recipe. I wish I could get it delivered to me in Richmond. They had a large selection of pies and the Oreo was a hit, as well as the milkshake. I couldn't say much on other food items, I would assume if they toon the care as with their desserts, they would all be good. Trust me, you can find a better place in the area with a classic look and better dessert!

I don't live in the area, but anytime I pass through I always try to stop at Zip's. If you're looking for a spotless example of a 1950s stainless steel diner, you won't find one more beautiful than Zip's. The wait staff and owner are very friendly, and the food is consistently good. The focus here is on diner comfort food classics, from breakfast classics like hash, eggs and pancakes to lunch and dinner specials, including scratch-made soup. For diner aficionados, the mid-'50s Jerry O'Mahony dining car is wonderfully preserved, right down to the vintage red and white china and the TALL neon sign on the roof. I've been eating here for 30 years, and it's always good.

No shock here. I love diners, and I especially love old diners. The current owner told me he is the third generation of his family to operate Zip's and that Zip passed 70 ish years ago. So this is my kind of place!!! I was on my way from Hartford to southern New Hampshire and planned a breakfast stop. A quick search found Zip's listed as one of the best diners in Connecticut, and I now know why. Super friendly and quick service, great food, and reasonable prices... in a well-established, classic diner. What's not to love? Can't wait to return for a burger!!!

I just ate there with my grandma yesterday, and we were both sort of not loving it.

The place wasn't really the cleanest I've seen: Our waitress didn't bother to wipe off our table correctly (there was still food on it), and when she was wiping it, she didn't use a trash can, so the food was swept onto the floor. My grandma also said that the radios were really sticky (I didn't feel them, but they were probably just old) Service was okay: Our waitress seemed a little irritated, but I thought the other staff were quite nice! They seemed stressed out though, because the place was real busy The food was mediocre: I got a cobb salad with blue dressing and my grandma got a club turkey sandwich. The cobb salad was okay; a little too much tomato for my liking and the dressing wasn't as flavorful as some other eateries around here make it You definitely pay for what you get: The food wasn't costly at all; very fair prices. If you're looking for a place to quickly eat and not have to worry about a dent in your funds, Zip's has got you covered

All and all, wasn't the worst, but I think there are...

I was told by a local it was good. Maybe my friend and I caught them on a bad day. Ordered the Turkey club style sandwich , there was barely any turkey on it kind of like crumbly if it was a whole slice it was just one slice the stuffing they put on it tasted like boxed stuffing and there was barely any cranberry sauce on it. It just wasn't worth the wait and believe me we had to wait there is only one other couple inside the diner one man at the counter and then us to sitting at one of the other booths and it took them a good 20 minutes to come over and take our order and I seen five staff people standing around talking and waiting on people outside. The homemade soup my friend said was luke warm if anything. The only thing I could say good was the onion rings were delicious. I'll give it another chance because it's covid-19 out there, however if I don't get a good meal the next time I go the write-up won't be as pleasant. The waitress was pleasant that we did have though she never came back to the table to ask us if everything was okay because at that point we would have told her that...
