Great food, friendly service. Chicken, ranch, bacon jalapeno tacos.. Soooo good...
So seven years later, and it seems much has changed. Went here yesterday to celebrate my 50th birthday and another friends 38th. The server seemed to have an attitude, very short and just didn't get a very friendly vibe. Maybe she was having a bad day, I don't know.. It's happens.
The food was decent, other than the potato skins not getting put in. Which again whatever, it happens.
My one star review comes from what happened when we got the bill.. There were 5 people at the table four adults, and 1 kid.. There were two separate checks. As I went to put my card in the check sleave to pay. I saw a line item on the bill - "Gratuity Added" $16.84 I then ask my friend to look at his, and it was the same thing..
Now, it was not mentioned that I would be paying for what would be another entree from the menu. I looked around to see if there was some sign that said "Parties of 5 or more would automatically be charged "gratuity"
So first thing lets start with a definition of the word gratuity - something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service.
When you force me to pay a gratuity it actually stops being something that is given voluntarily and becomes a service charge - One that should be told to everyone who will be forced to pay it.
Taking my choice away to decide how well I think the food and the service were. Because that's why we leave tips right? Tips/Gratuity are not part of the bill.
This all could have been resolved with a simple "Hey we add on gratuity for this reason" And then I could have said okay, and either been okay with it or decided to go somewhere else. The way this is done here seems extremely deceitful. Someone who doesn't really look at the bill closely may just add more money on the line that says "additional tip"
I eat here probably 5 or 6 times a year. Always enjoyed the environment, and the food is good. So I'm sure the fact that I will never eat here again will have no effect on this business.
I hope that someone will ready this and not be duped by the deceitful business practice that is occurring.
The funny thing is I would have tipped more if the decision was...
Read moreWhen I moved to Kimberly 18 years ago people said one of the bonuses was living so close to Tanners. Being 10yrs old at the time, I had no idea why a 'bar' was that great. Well, I can say that the food was really good even to my picky 10 yr old taste buds. Plenty for a kid to eat and enjoy, good prices and NEVER had a badly cooked meat there yet. I love their appetizers and their sodas as well as ales, beers, and other drinks are always delicious. The bar tenders are very good at balancing a good mixed drink, and will pour to suit if asked. Their fries are delicious. For those wondering, they are golden, crisp, the potatoes don't hollow out when fried to next to nothing. They are fresh, don't taste like stale freezer, and they are warm all through, and have plenty to a serving. Cheese sauce is a yummy addition if you like that sort of thing. Anyway, don't be afraid to get a steak. Juicy and verified cooked to request. Tell me anyplace else that cooks a medium rare properly and I'll bet tanners still does it better. Staff keeps the place really clean, even on busy as heck nights. They run really nice volleyball leagues, the popcorn snacks are good, and the bathroom is kept clean enough. The staff are easy to hail. And they are polite, and dressed cleanly. The dart boards and such are fun, and the outside area in summer is really enjoyable. Love the new patio dining area. And the pool is really clean. And probably better than your average hotel pool since it's so new. No glass out on the poolside area, so don't have to panic about your feet. They enforce this very well. And they do ID. Which I'm glad for. Anyway, now I'm hungry again. Hope you will check this place out and enjoy. If you don't like a crowd, as long as it's not a weekend, a volleyball league, or a game night, the place should be pretty quiet. Plan for days that aren't that if you want some space. Music is never too loud in my opinion. And has a...
Read moreTanners has a lot going on - concerts, events, shows, volleyball, bags, food, drinks, and a consistent lively buzz of customers enjoying it all. Food is tasty but still seems more like bar fare than restaurant quality, which can be either exactly what his the spot or leave you somewhat unsatisfied depending on what experience you expected. Don't expect more than bar food.
Staff are pleasant, attentive, and helpful. But not necessarily experts and if busy, can be curt. In the concert area they are allay short staffed, so plan to wait upwards of an hour and get enough drinks for the night when they finally do get to you.
The one oddity that remains a negative is that minors are not allowed outside at he patio area. I could see restricting small children for safety reasons since there is an open pool, but over 10 or 12, kids know not to run around in tournament or pool areas. So if there is an event or tournament, you can't bring your family here to watch. This is the only place in the area I know with that setup and it is a pain every single time family is involved. I cannot bring family groups here so I don't.
I would recommend that one rule be reevaluated, then the place would be more worth visiting. Perhaps require wristbands for teens on the patio and post safety rules as opposed to not allowing older...
