This is the start to my 6th year of doing cheer at WIDC. As a kid, you obviously try many different sports growing up and for me, cheer is the only one that sparked joy. When growing from a kid to a young adult/teenager it’s easy to lose interest in things that once interested you. This sport has always entertained me and helped me create relationships with different age groups. I’ve been friends with most of the girls on my team since the first week of cheer. I can say that there is little to no drama in the friend group i created at WIDC. The coaches at WIDC have been extremely helpful to drama and past situations i have dealt with in the past (even if it’s personal or an outside of the gym problem). The coaches to me are very trust worthy and make me feel comfortable talking to them about anything. As most parents might not understand, to make us better athletes they push us very hard by running or conditioning extra. The way they train us makes us stronger athletes, they obviously don’t make us do this kind of stuff to “punish” us for making a mistake. It can be rough at times but it physically and mentally prepares us for the future. I cannot imagine the past 6 years of my life doing anything other than this sport (specifically at WIDC) , it truly has impacted me in the best...
Read moreThe coaches seem to play favorites. If you stay quiet and aren’t the favorite parent on the team, your kid gets put in the back or left on the sideline. If you do speak up and they don’t like what you have to say, your kid is also left on the sideline or in the back, regardless of skill level. Hoping to cheer in college? Don’t expect any help here.
We’ve been members of WIDC for several years but the gym has come to value politics and their brand over student development and cheer. My niece has made many friends here but we’ve watched them all slowly switch to other gyms for similar reasons. It’s unfortunate. We wish WIDC the best and hope the gym can return to valuing skill development...
Read moreMy daughter is in the cheer program at WIDC. She has been a member of the WIDC program for 8 years. She started out doing tumbling for two years then tried out for cheer. Her first team was a J3 team and they had a fabulous year. She worked hard to get where she is and has done so with the support of the amazing staff and coaches at WIDC. The families and team members also have made it an amazing experience. This season will be over in roughly two months then she will be a senior in high school. I couldn’t have asked for a better program for her to...
