It upsets me having to write this, I lived in Kingman for a few years, even went to high school there. This was always one of my favorite places and during a road trip, was finally able to take my wife there. I talked it up a little too much it seems, per usual the food is/was great but the service was a bit lackluster.
We came and asked if they were serving outside, and I got a very reluctant "yes", we had our dog with us so sitting inside was not an option. But had they just said no from the start this whole disaster could have been avoided.
We sit outside for about 20 minutes and no one comes out, I go back in to confirm if we were okay to be outside and if they were serving outside, it was in the high 60's with a very light breeze, they were not busy, and I was reassured by two employees, one said "yes" while the other said "I guess so", I think we should have just left at that point but I was so eager to make this work.
Another 15 minutes goes by and a woman finally comes out, her first words were not hello or any form of greeting but instead were "Are you guys ready yet?" as if they had been waiting on us the whole time. Thankfully, sitting there for 30 minutes gave us more than enough time to figure out what we want, so we place the order.
Food comes out pretty quick, but not drinks and had not had drinks at all at this point, we get the drinks a few minutes after getting the food.
Then for the most awkward part of the experience, to say the service was lackluster is putting it nicely, we have both worked in restaurants growing up, and we get it can be a demanding job and often times difficult. Our server came out a total of four times, once to take our order, once to bring out the food, once to bring out the drinks, and one more time for us to pay our tab. We tried to pay our tab early seeing as how we weren't really welcomed here and she asks "are you sure you're ready to go?" I confirm and she immediately leaves again, even though she had the bill, I just needed to hand her my card. She finally comes back out after about ten minutes, says nothing and puts the payment machine in front of my face and has me do everything on it and even WATCHED to see how much I would tip her, in this case I would've preferred to leave a tip on the lower end given our experience but felt pressured, and left 10% I think. Either way it was too much, she grabs it from my hand quickly, does not say good bye, thank you, nothing. We even told her thanks and have a good day and got no response. I REALLY hope this was a one time thing but hard to say we will be coming back at this point.
Hope things get better so people can continue to enjoy this...
Read moreI will try anything once. Twice, if I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not the first time. This is my 4th or 5th time "dining" at this establishment. I gave it a try. I gave it a bunch of tries. And today, I am so fed up, fed up enough that I'm willing to write about it, to stop you from making the same mistake I made..... trying this place. Just keep on driving. There's plenty of other options available. Diners are my absolute favorite. If I have a choice, diners are always first in my list. And so this has always been a place I wanted to go to. Parking is horrible. And of the 4 or 5 times I've been it's because I found a parking spot. The other times we circled a few times, then went elsewhere. Today, oh lucky me, I found parking! My luck ended there. The restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived, and were escorted to a table in an adjacent room. One other table occupied, and they were mid meal. Menus were dropped, and that was it. No drink orders taken... after 15 minutes...15 minutes EXACTLY our server returned to take our food and drink orders. We watched as others after us came, were seated, got their drinks, and even were being served food.... While we waited. I wanted to leave. Hubby knew how much I wanted to like this today, and said we will wait this out... Our server couldn't be bothered with us, and ignored us through our entire experience. Our food came out much later than everyone else's, because we ordered super exotic fare.... A salad and burger. Which apparently was just too hard to do... even though everyone else had the same thing, and got theirs before we did. The food itself was okay, nothing wrong, but nothing fabulous either. Items missing from the order.... But, I kept reminding myself that I was there for the dessert... and just hang in there... The check was dropped at our table without offering us a chance to order anything else... or offer of a Togo for our leftovers....and I knew that It would be another painful hour if I tried to hunt down our absent server and order. The items missing from our order was attributed to the new guy in the kitchen. Sigh. The root beer is always amazing, but not worth the headache. Honestly. I gave this the benefit of the doubt for too long. Root beer, shakes, desserts- AMAZING Entrees - ok to good Service - abysmal I will never go back, because this experience today was EXACTLY like our experience ALL or our...
Read moreThe decor is that of an diner in the 50s which is cool but leaves little room to move around. I can forgive being coerced into up charging and ordering the root beer and a float. But what I cannot forgive is horrible service being I used to work and manage restaurants before my current profession. when ready to pay I noticed that with other tables wait staff was taking ticket to register but yet my wait staff asked me to meet them at the register. Which in turn embarrassed me publicly in front of all the other patrons. As the walk way to the register is a small walk way that has 2 old machines in the walk way near the bar seating where it was completely packed with patrons. I had gastric bypass in may and have dropped 90 pounds already but I still didn't feel comfortable having to push through to get to the register which she tried to wave me down even though I tried to wave her back to me. So I had to yell across the restaurant I couldn't fit through the walk way. I could have but I would of had to touch people whole they were sitting g there to get past the machines. So basically had to embarrass myself because of poor customer service by my wait staff. And she was rude about it while I tried to explain not allowing me to explain why to try to prevent it from happening to anyone else even a skinny person would of had to push through. i still tipped 5 dollars on the bill because i know how tourist places can be. Tourists are notorious for not tipping and im not sure if she was just having a bad day but I don't think we're going to come back.
Came back to edit this both me and my significant other got violently ill as well after eating here. Within an hour of eating we were both sick and having to both use both toilets in our home with trash cans as well. I recently moved here and wanted this to be a permanent go to for us but after the bad service and also getting sick never again. I get that it's a tourist joint and the owners might not really care but when you take care of possible locals/ regulars then when tourist season dies down you still have loyal customers that keep your business afloat. I'll continue taking my money and business down the street where I get the service I deserve and the food doesn't give me food poisoning. I will never...
