They have new ownership. We have always loved the wonton soup that the former owners made. But the wonton that is made there now is not that great. The service was very slow. The young gal waiting tables and taking orders was quite distracted. When we came in at least three booth tables were dirty. We waited 4 to 6 minutes at least for her to come to our table to give us menus and as she proceeded to hand them to us I mentioned to her that the table was dirty and needed to be washed which seemed to surprised her and she went to get a washcloth. But on her way back she stopped and washed another table and dropped off menus to a second table and then finally came over and washed our table. It took quite a while for our food to be served; she brought one bowl of soup and set it at the edge of the table and didn't give any explanation and so we wondered if maybe our order was misunderstood. We finally went and asked and she said, "No, the second bowl was coming pretty soon." Finally, after we both received our wonton soup, I did not have a soup spoon for mine so I got her attention and asked if I could possibly get a soup spoon because all I had with me at the table was a small spoon. She said yes and went to get it but then forgot and got busy behind the counter. Eventually I walked up to the counter and ask for a soup spoon for myself which she handed to me. Their egg rolls are very good. But other than that we are not impressed with the service nor the food and we won't be going back. It used to be a favorite haunt to go to for a bowl of wonton on a chilly day but...
Read moreCurrent review: It is so, so disappointing. This place has died. I went here again for the first time in awhile and to see how my childhood chinese restaurant has changed for the worst was so sad! Food is so much different and much much lower quality. Only thing that hasn't changed is the egg rolls, those are still perfect. The service was strange as well, lady was very persistent about things. I don't think I'll be coming here again. Used to be the absolute best Chinese food around, and I mean that! Previous review: Genuinely some of the best Chinese food around. I have been coming here since I was a little kid and even after quite a few changes in ownership, some of the recipes stayed exactly the same. Their sweet n sour sauce is killer, their egg rolls are very peppery and filled with cabbage, the egg foo young is incredible, and the almond fried chicken is actually the best. Their soups are also super good! The only thing I grieve for is they used to have fried tofu on the menu, the oldest one was just plain but still lovely, but the most recent time a few years ago was salt and pepper tofu with bell peppers and onions and it was INCREDIBLE. I wish they would bring that back! Other then that definitely a must go-to...
Read moreI'm pretty spoiled, because the last place I lived had many excellent restaurants with low prices. I tried Joy Luck for the first time earlier this week and wasn't particularly impressed. Potstickers were mediocre; I make them better at home using the frozen ones from the grocery store. Salt and pepper prawns were the worst I've ever had; the breading was too thick and had a gritty mouthfeel that was very unpleasant. The BBQ pork chow mein was tasty, but the pork was dry. The prawns with snow peas was more like snow peas with prawns; it tasted great, but didn't have enough prawns in it. The veggie fried rice was good, but that's not exactly rocket science. If I'm in the area I may try this place again and order different dishes, but it won't be a destination by any means. The Chinese restaurant near Walmart in Poulsbo (Taste Wei) is...
