I’m going to preface this by saying I grew up with a father who is in food service. He was a cook in the Navy and after he got out, he ran kitchens from your basic greasy spoon to a four-star restaurant. I know what it takes to run a restaurant because we were called in several times to help out, and I was a waitress myself for a few years. Because I know how hard it is, I give a lot of grace.
I was excited to try this place because I love diners. I loved the decor and the bright, cheery atmosphere! We were a party of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children. The only other diners in there was another party about the same size that came in after us.
The first problem we noticed were ants. We were sitting by a window and there were ants around our booth. Ants don’t bother me so we ignored them.
The next problem was delivery of the food: From the first person being served to the last person being served was 45 minutes. In fact, the last person waited so long they had to ask about their food when that finally came it, was incomplete and they had to ask again for the other item. During this time, the waitress was also bringing out the meals for the other table. She would put a few down for them and then come with one of ours and then back-and-forth.. There were two meals that were incorrect but not enough to send it back. The food for the most part was very good. The only issue was with the crêpes they - had a strange taste to them that is hard to explain. The prices were very reasonable and you get a large portion for your money.
Based on my experience, I’m think the problems can be boiled down to inexperience of both the the waitress and line cook. The waitress was very sweet, but she was frazzled by the two tables of 6 people each and the line cook couldn’t keep up...
Read moreWe needed to get out for a bit and decided to give this spot a go. It's a diner but also a sports bar? Going by the signage. We came early for breakfast. The vibes are.. interesting. Seating and tables are very diner but the ceiling is clouds? And the walls are a sky blue. Something about the lighting/coloring strained my eyes a little but that's a me issue. Loved the music choices (Jackson 5, Diana Ross etc era) it was a little loud but not so much you couldn't talk. The most important thing is the food and we had zero complaints there. I had the garden scramble with country potatoes and the potatoes were surprisingly flavorful. My boyfriend had the migas and devoured it. His daughter was curious about the salmon eggs Benedict going in with low expectations but she was actually impressed. The portions were hearty for us. 2/3 of us barely finishing and were stuffed. The other took leftovers home. The prices were as expected, not bad. We all agreed we'd be coming back. I'm interested to see it when it's been open a bit longer and things aren't as new.
Didn't get pics of the food, whoops. Mine came out earlier than theirs and I was hungry, lol. Screenshots from a video since it wouldnt let me...
Read moreNate’s Diner on Loop 494 in Porter is exactly what our community needed — a true mom-and-pop gem with heart, flavor, and hospitality. Our server, Azalea, was absolutely wonderful, and the owner Javier was so kind and welcoming. You can really feel the love they’ve poured into this place (fun fact — it’s named after his son, Nate!). We tried several dishes, and everything was homemade and incredible. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly, the Big Meal Deal (think IHOP’s Grand Slam — but way better!) came with fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and hearty home-style potatoes loaded with onions, peppers, and cheese. The chicken and waffles featured real, hand-battered fried chicken strips — so fresh and flavorful! No frozen chicken here! If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t miss the Sweet Lovers Crepe — filled with strawberries, bananas, Nutella, and whipped cream — pure heaven. They even serve the good ranch, the homemade kind, and their sweet tea is strong and perfectly Southern. Everything from the food to the service was outstanding. We can’t wait to come back — this place is a must-try and truly...
