Porter Inn — Hotel in Kingwood

Please do not book until you read these reviews! I got to the hotel late- around 12am and checked in. the woman at the front desk was nice but when I walked to my room upon shutting the door I see DOZENS of roaches scurry from the back of the door. they were everywhere. I looked down and saw dozens more running across the floor and the walls. If it wasn't late and I could book a room somewhere else (or even had a car to sleep in) I would've grabbed my stuff and RAN. I go to the front desk and tell them I had roaches in my room. They were unphased and asked if I wanted another room and I accepted because I had no other choice. I get to my new room and scope it out and I don't see any roaches so I think I'm good. But of course, where there is one roach, there are many. Throughout my stay I saw roaches, fruit flies and regular flies everywhere in my room. The room was less than clean and the fact that they have clearly had a roach problem for according to the reviews- at least 2 YEARS is disgusting and negligent. The fridge smelled like something had gone bad in it and they hadn't even wiped it down, the sheets had marks on them and there were big holes in the walls that had been roughly patched up, some were still just gaping holes in drywall. This stay was horrifying. I would have rather slept in a car. As far as safety goes, there were many people hanging around outside at all hours, but I didn't experience anything bad and was a solo female traveler. I didn't try the breakfast because I don't trust the cleanliness of any part of the property. When I was checking out I told them about the many bugs I found in my room the response was "oh ok I'll talk to the housekeeper" and nothing else. Overall if you're reading this review and haven't booked yet please find another place. This place is cheap but in no way worth it. It would be hard to find a place...

I've stayed at manner many motels I've seen the good and the bad I've stayed here many times since the day they opened. The previous owner really didn't care about the customers or maintaining the property. They also would let people stay here that were not the cleanest people and I mean that in a few ways. I know they can't control everyone that comes in the door but the past owners really didn't try. But that's to say since the new owners took over this place has completely changed for the good. It's very clean. They keep up with the maintenance big time. They just quietly remodeled and painted everything and it looks amazing he they are not raising the rates bc of it. They treat everyone with respect they guy that's always at the front desk is amazing. He tries to make sure every customer is happy. He will also work with you in anything. Him and his staff do an amazing job especially seeing what they were left with from the last people. This area can be a bad area but when you walk into this place you feel safe and forget about the bad criminals and bad cops that are in this area. I recommend you staying here even if it's just night or weekly they have great rates I promise you I'd come here over any other place in this area even if they other place saves you few dollars. For the quality of this place we should be paying much more but there new owners have their customers in mind by not trying to get top dollar. IDC if you have had a bad experience at another store with this brand name bc this one stands above the rest I swear. Speak to the manager when you come if you have a complaint he will do everything to fix it. Please come to this motel the best stay of your life. One last thing brand new beds they are not cheap either they are the most comfortable bed you will...

FIRST: the current owners are the NEW owners. As of the end of June 2023, they've only owned it for about week. There are plenty of problems with the hotel overall, but they're all left from the previous management. Current owners/management are WONDERFUL and try to make everything right that they can.

That said: service is definitely the best thing about it. It's definitely an inexpensive motel. Don't expect anything fancy. There's no breakfast (even though all the websites this motel is listed on say they have a Continental breakfast), only coffee in the main lobby. Not even any tea. The vending machines are decently priced, but not a very big selection. WiFi is free, but slow so I used my phone data the whole time. TV is just basic cable with no way to log in to your own streaming accounts unless you bring a device capable of being physically connected to the TV. Rooms are clean but bare of any "comforts" except a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker (though some rooms are currently missing these, but the staff will replace them if you let them know). Decent location, walking distance to several fast food places, and a Walmart, if you need to go shopping, plus less than a half hour drive from the airport.

Overall a solid 3 stars, and will definitely get better as the new owners have time to address...
