Hofbrau Steaks — Restaurant in Texas

My experience here was absolutely amazing. I had never received such a great experience in one occasion that would make me a loyal customer instantly until now. From the start the hostess built great conversations and a level of comfort with my children that had them laughing and conversating. Knowing we had children they sat us in right by the TV and put some kid friendly shows on. The server was just as great, continuously checking in on our food and had impeccable timing. As for the food, I am shocked at other reviews. Everything we had was delicious. For that day we ordered the following:

Fried pickes - cooked to perfection, right level of batter and crispiness

Boudin balls - we each tried one boudin ball. At first glance we though the price was steep for one ball but after getting them in they where definitely worth it. Big in size, great in taste.

Stuffed jalapeños - one word = amazing. The flavors all put together where great with a good enjoyable level of heat.

Kids meal chicken strips & kids meal shrimp basket - being that I didn't personally taste this food, the one thing I can tell you is our kids ate it up. Shrimp and chicken where good in size.

Porterhouse - worth every dollar. I can honestly say this has been by far the best steak I've had and can put money that they can outbeat any steakhouse or food chain in Houston. The steak was so great that there was no need for any kind of steak sauce.

Over this place was great and I confidently recommend it to anyone.

Just got up and left your establishment when there were literally only 3 tables of customers. Two tables of customers were seated after us and were waited on by other servers who appeared very attentive and friendly. One even mentioned to us that so and so (didn’t get his name) would be right with us. It took forever for him to get to us to even take our drink order and when I mentioned to him (young blonde gentleman), “I was glad he finally thought of us”, he just shrugged his shoulders. We had already felt as if we weren’t welcome, because the hostess (dark haired Hispanic or maybe Pilipino woman) that seated us was not very friendly, or appeared to have rather not been bothered with customers. We were extremely disappointed and felt management or the owner should know. As good customer service is rare these days, I’m disappointed to have to include this establishment to that list just because of a few individuals that don’t care. I hope this matters and it won’t be tolerated!

Next day: Owners did respond to my email and were very professional and apologetic as I had hoped. They do not condone this type of service and were glad they were informed. They have made us a nice offer to return. I am please to know that my assumption that the owners would have a completely different attitude is refreshing. Our 1st time there, pretty disappointing. The dirty rice was dry, the second batch was dry, the 3rd attempt was edible. The hush puppies tasted like they were soaked in grease and left they to soak up the grease, I couldn't eat them. The cat fish was delicious and juicy, just like I like it. The tartar sauce was not good, it didn't have much flavor besides the flavor of mayonnaise. The iced tea..... wow, what a failure!!! Who screws up on making iced tea, unless it was fountain tea, which it may very well been because it was all water, no flavor, not sweet at all. The ice inside the glass wouldn't even get it cold cold. The steak was undercooked. The baked potato was small, and they charge extra for that. The cole slaw was ok but I didn't really like it. The cabbage was cut into thick tiny sized squares and loaded with mayo that was so heavy you couldn't really taste the cabbage. There were not that many people inside this place, at 6:30 pm, and we now know why. The service was good, the waitress tried really hard to make it a good experience for us. We will not be going back there again though. There is no desert menu btw. There is a full bar there, not sure what that was like though. The decor is OLD, VINTAGE, and lots of TVs throughout...
