We're still on our mission to find the best margherita, grandma, and grandpa pizzas in North Jersey. Recently, we had La Piazza [formerly Kinnelon Pizza Pasta Cafe] in Kinnelon, NJ. We ordered their Margherita and upside down pies. Note: we ordered a salad and other items but our focus is especially on the Margherita and Upside Sicilian [aka a Grandpa pie].
Whenever a new place opens, we become very excited to try it! Once we saw the Upside down pie listed we were excited due to the fact they actually listed that option. First up, the Margherita. I was disappointed to see the fresh mozz spread over the entire pie. Looks can be deceiving though. Well....Upon the first bite, it actually was pretty bland. I could not get a taste of the basil [baked on] and my issue with the entire pie covered with the fresh mozz is that you don't get the fresh sauce with every bite. The crust was identical to a crust that is served on a regular plain pie; it was cooked perfectly and had a nice crunch on the crust. Overall, I had a bad feeling before the first bite. The sauce was tasty but again without the fresh basil to enhance it; it just didn't have the taste it should have. For those that love fresh basil... you know what happens when you take a bite of fresh basil with a great sauce.
The Upside Down pie... Upon opening the box.. the mozzarella is melted perfectly, the sauce was spread evenly on top and I can see the seasoning and parm cheese sprinkled/melted on. The thickness was perfect; about an 1.5 -2 inches thick. First bite... it was okay. The crust had a nice crunch on the outer slices but the biggest issue was the amount of mozz cheese. There was so much cheese on this pie that the middle of the pie became soggy and very difficult to get out of the box. The pie did not need this much mozz; it is promising and I think as they make more this will be perfected in the future [I hope!] The sauce was difference from the Margherita but I also feel that I've had this sauce before.
Again, a new place and you can tell that the staff was overwhelmed with the orders [we did not get any dressing with our salad]. Once its established and you have opportunities to experiment with your pies I do feel that La Piazza will put out a better product. The former place here was definitely a superior pizza place than the...

Terrible! Food delivery estimate was 650-7. Food still was not here by 630, I contacted kinnelon pizza. Manager picks up, before I can even say a word he says food is on its way, I said how do you know where I live. He goes it’s on the way. I live 5 min away, maybe less. 15 min later I call back. A nice girl picks up and reports food is still there “she just noticed”. I tell her to leave it we’ll pick up. My husband heads over comes back with cold dry food, and we’re missing an order. Another order is wrong. I call back, let the girl know and she tells me the manager will call back. The same rude man that answered before calls back. I explain what happens, he cuts me off, tells me I ordered the food wrong however he’ll give me a 10 percent discount on my order (as if I’m going back)! I then explained that not only would I have picked up if they had told me the order was delayed for delivery by 1.5 hours , but he was rude the first time I called and lied the food was on its way. Then I said what about the missing order do I get a credit back?! He finally said he’d credit me back for missing food but nothing for the fact that it took 2 hours to receive cold dry food! I had a bad day with covid with a few friends of mine. Would have been nice to get a hot meal. Needless to say I will never go back. I was I. The food industry 10 years myself, kindness and An apology...
Read moreWe recently discovered La Piazza, a family-owned pizza place. Their pizza is delicious and fresh! But what really sets this place apart is the genuine dedication of the owners to make sure every customer leaves happy. They go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience, making everyone feel like valued guests. As a family with young kids, we appreciate how kid-friendly the restaurant is. The staff was incredibly patient and accommodating, and there’s a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it a great spot for families to enjoy a meal together. The prices are very reasonable. It’s clear that the owners want to provide great value without compromising on quality, which is a rare find these days. We highly recommend this pizza place to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a friendly,...
