Had their cookie dough from their food truck a few years ago and was not impressed; weird texture and the toppings mixed in (cereal/pretzels/etc.) get soft, not crispy/crunchy like you'd expect. Gave it another try at their shop today and went with the classic chocolate chip. I still can't get over the texture. It's almost like it's curdled, I'm assuming from using an oil in place of butter so it's not hard to scoop cold. Overall, the shop was clean and the staff was super friendly and took the time to explain the menu. The price is equal to what you'd expect to spend on an ice cream at a place like Coldstone, so not sure why reviewers are complaining about that. If you've got kids, they would probably love it and not notice a difference in the texture, just not for me.
Edit: i came back to give Knox Dough a third shot 3 yrs. later to see if product was any better. I sampled a few different flavors. As I remembered, mix ins were all soggy so I opted for plain chocolate chip. Still cannot get over the oily texture. I’m really curious what kind of fat you use in this cookie dough… Butter melts at body temp and that’s why it has such a pleasing mouthfeel…this tastes like sweetened Crisco with chocolate chips mixed in. I tried!! Staff was...
Read moreHeard of Knox Dough on Instagram and was THRILLED to find a rolled ice cream in Knoxville! The Knoxville Kingston Pike location also has a new pizza in a cone!! Wow what a gem! The pizza was delicious. Some of the best tasting dough I've had. It was a little precarious eating it like an ice cream cone with hot sauce starting to ooze out. There's plenty of delicious cheese and the toppings are a bit of a surprise. A few on top and then a bunch buried in the cone base. Completely worth it! Though it looks small, the pizza is about the same amount you'd get in a personal size at another pizza joint. We shared ours as we already had dinner and it was just right. Definitely let it cool for a minute though. As for the edible cookie dough and the rolled ice cream... YUM! Edible cookie dough is made with heat treated flour so no raw eggs. You can get rolled ice cream with edible cookie dough mixed in then toppings added. One rolled ice cream cup is plenty for two people. Our only suggestion is that the fun color changing spoons are a bit flimsy to eat the ice cream with. Was afraid that we'd end up flipping ice cream out on the ground lol. I will be eagerly awaiting our return to Knox Dough. They certainly made our night...
Read moreDelicious and nicely priced! The staff is very friendly and excited for feedback. The ice cream can be very rich but they have a decent selection of flavors for everyone and I love the addition of mixing cookie dough into the ice cream. You can buy the cookie dough by itself, but the main thing is the rolled ice cream. You select a base (vanilla, chocolate, orange), a cookie dough to be mixed in, and up to 3 topping. They roll it all together for a wonderful flavor combination in a fun way to enjoy it. The store itself is decorated really well and feels very comfortable/homey. They even offer some board games if you just want to hang out inside while you eat!
It can be a little hard to find as it's set back in a nearly hidden shopping center and is a corner store. Best to use the GPS first time or look it up on Google StreetView first! The sign in front of the turn-in is small so we missed...
