The hubby and I went to enjoy a late brunch on this beautiful Saturday! We decided to go by St. Lucille's. We have had their food when they were still a "test kitchen" at a different location, but we haven't been to the "new" physical location until now. I ordered the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. He ordered the Red Beans and Rice which had pieces of sausage in it. My review of the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo is a 3.5 out of 5. The ONLY reason is i was thrown off by the French bread (used for dipping) being super buttery and a little softer than your traditional NOLA style French bread. Due to the butter it made the bread much softer and it did not absorb as well I think it should, nor was it able to hold the Gumbo firmly before it reached my mouth. Lol. It kept going soggy and would just fall back into my bowl. Another reason is for the rice. It did taste more of an "instant" rice vs fresh rice cooker and therefore wasn't 100% cooked all the way through. But, the Chicken is delicious! The spices were 100% head on correct and the Sausage was just hot enough with a nice beautiful texture and a little kick. It was truly delicious! Red Beans and Rice review: 4.0 out of 5 consistency of the red beans were perfect and again spices were 100% on the money and he LOVED the sausage pieces. However, he also had the same issue with his French Bread and also his rice. But my overall review as a whole is 4 out of 5 for food and 5 for everything else! The prices are very reasonable for your portion sizes and presentation. The service is fantastic. The location is super cool and they did a great job with remodeling this building and the inside is beautiful! I recommend everyone to try this place at least once weather it is for brunch or dinner! We will be making a return trip for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDisappointed. Super excited to try this place, so my expectations might have been high, given all the 5 star reviews. I got the muffuletta and red beans & rice as a side. First of all let me say that my expectation was for this sandwich to have A LOT of olives, which it did not. (The photo someone else took of that sandwich in the review section was NOT what mine looked like, but it does show a ton of olives) The bread was stale/old and soggy and it had about a tablespoon of withered dry old olives to cover both sides. The meat was just⦠deli meat. Itās a giant mouthful of cold cuts. Basically someone pulled this sandwich from the refrigerator in the back and walked it to me before I could barely sit down. Meh. Thanks for the speed but I was looking for fresh. Red beans were hot and spicy. Just ok for my taste, but many people rave on them. Iām a person who ALWAYS finishes my meal, and I left over half this sandwich untouched, and threw it out. My friend thought her etoufee was fine. I recommend checking out the place though to try other items, perhaps this was an off day or perhaps I chose poorly. Who can say? But in my opinion muffuletta should have a ton of olives on fresh...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDisappointed with the So-Called "Cajun Shrimp Boil". I was really looking forward to this Cajun Shrimp Boil, but unfortunately, it was anything but. What was advertised as a proper boil turned out to be a plate of unseasoned shrimp with cocktail sauce, two small potatoes, and a half ear of cornāhardly what anyone would consider a Cajun boil.
When we asked for seasoning, we were given a tiny condiment cup of generic dry seasoning that barely helped. On top of that, the portion was only enough for one person, even though a boil is typically meant to be shared.
To make matters worse, we saw the bartender ask a customer to hand another customer napkins instead of coming out from behind the bar to do it himself. Thatās just unacceptable service.
Overall, this event was misleading and disappointing. If you're going to advertise a Cajun boil, at least serve something that resembles one! I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously because this was nowhere near the experience we...
