The Cottage Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Kutztown

A cute spot located right on Main st in kutztown. Unfortunately I couldn’t give 5 stars, but I wanted to!

Pros: Menu- awesome! Something for everyone! Hours- open on Sundays when lots of other places are not Ordering- online ordering was a breeze. We even had an unavailable donut, but we received a quick call and we were able to select something else

Now for the cons: Prices- The price per donut was very high. For example, at either farmers market we buy from, a dozen can range from $17-25…. These were over $30

Quality- I believe since it was a Sunday, perhaps the baking gets done earlier in the week. The donuts had a great flavor, but many of them were dry, or just shy of stale. We did not like the cake donuts at all, the yeast ones were better. The bacon on the maple bacon had a strong smoked bacon flavor… not a usual salty bacon flavor, which we personally prefer.

I have 4 kids and 3 are teenagers. We get donuts every other weekend… and there are never any left. We threw out 2.5 donuts on Monday.

I love a good small business, and from what I can gather, this one is fairly new. We will try them again sometime! Maybe eat in and try other breakfast foods, or take out cakes/pies!

Also, if I could do it over, I would have gone in to pick out donuts myself, instead of ordering online! Asking staff which they would recommend, probably would have helped! Like I said, we look forward to...

We visited for the first time The Cottage Bakery & Cafe in Kutztown. To Die for! A cute tiny relaxing country style place, with all home cooking and baking. I had a brisket, cheese and egg on a brioche. My wife had a egg, cheese and bacon on a croissant. For dessert, I had a Key Lime donut. Delicious! We took home a piece of their tiramisu, which the owner offered we taste before buying with no obligation. She was very nice and accommodating, and so was her staff. The Cottage Bakery & Cafe. Highly recommended. A+++++

UPDATE Jan 24, 2024 Dear Dawn, thank you again for the complementary Lemon Donut. You've asked that we give you our feed back on it. You are right, and we see why it's your favorite donut. It is absolutely delicious, the best lemon donut we ever had! As you've mentioned, it is very rich in its lemony flavor due to lots of good lemon juices plus the many other lemon things you put in. My wife loved it, but for me, I love your Key Lime donut more. The Key Lime Donut is not as strong in flavor and sweetness as your Lemon Donut. But if I were stranded on a desert island, and I only had your Lemon Dunuts to eat, I'd eat a ton of them, no problem. Lol! Thank you again for the Lemon Donut. We will be back for more great food and great baked...

The Cottage Bakery & Cafe truly is a gem in the local area. From a diverse array of treats ranging from cheesecake and muffins to sandwiches and cookies, every item I ordered was a delightful surprise. The breakfast sandwich was particularly outstanding; with bread that has the undeniable touch of being house-made and meats and cheeses that explode with flavor. Although they could be a tad more generous with the eggs, it's a minor oversight for what was an overall exceptional dish. While I had the slight misfortune of getting to the bakery later in the day, causing some of the baked goods to have sat for a bit, they were still out of this world in taste and texture. I can only imagine how divine they would be fresh out of the oven. If you've been contemplating a visit, consider this your sign: Don't think, just go and treat...
