the bagel bar cafe — Restaurant in Kutztown

This place is nasty. I genuinely was in shock with the amount of flies in the dining area and the bathroom. The bathroom genuinely smelled from the dining area too. I gave it another try a couple months ago and one of the workers who served me was genuinely intoxicated. The owner is also not very kind to his workers and we have heard slurs and other derogatory, inappropriate talk coming from the counter multiple times. Genuinely don't recommend.

UPDATE: The owner seems to think this was a faulty review. It's not... I was an ex employee and I repeatedly brought up these issues to him. I'm assuming Christine or Jimmy is the one responding while working there.. I'm sure you've had lots of nice reviews in the past because the food is somewhat edible (although it's all microwaved and unsanitary because they have been yelled at by the health inspector before for not bleaching their cutting boards) but that's only because it's from Weis. And, "I should have asked the manager" but I literally worked there for months, was close friends with many of the other coworkers, hung out with them outside of work, and experienced it first hand. Not every review is positive for a reason, take this as a learning experience :)

PS. the employees are all paid under the table and we make like $8 an hour. So when you're paying $10 for your burnt Weis croissant sandwich, remember that. They use the same cloths to clean the microwaves as they use to clean countertops, indoor/outdoor dining areas, AND the microwaves. All of the rags were then thrown into a bucket of bleach in the same sink used to wash dishes. the cloths were rarely replaced and were then also used to dry clean dishes. Jim was so cheap that the kitchen and staff area got so hot in the summer to the point where the employees were feeling ill from the heat. But then he refused to even let us keep the back door open to let cool air in because it is "letting...

The design and decor of this cafe made the atmosphere great! There is inside dining with 1 bathroom. You can also choose to sit outside, or go through the alleyway, and sit outside in the back where umbrella's are. It's very stylish, and calm. Nice place to read, work or just breathe. They are doing a project to create more "magic" as the sign notes upon walking in. You cannot come face to face or order at a counter with a staff member inside. There's a QR code to utilize for online order taking. Once your order is ready, you will recieve a prompt in the form of a text, telling you to go outside through the alleyway to the pick up window. Two windows, seperating paid vs unpaid orders. I ordered the Flamingo, and didn't really care for the Strawberry cream cheese with all the meat. I wish I had opted not to have it on the sandwich. The Caramello Latte...I expected it to taste richer (not sweeter) than what I received, but the coffee itself was good. If I wanted to hangout with a friend or 2, or have some quiet time I would definitely come back here, the setup is great. I wish I was local so I could give the menu a couple more tries. It seems like the menu names are more unique than the recipes ..but perhaps I didn't do it...

My roommate and I decided to check out the Bagel Bar Café after getting a few free drink coupons during an event on campus. When we went, mid-morning on a weekday, the place wasn't busy with a few people already seated and taken care of. We placed our orders, received our bagels, and went to sit down after the girl told us that she would bring us our coffees. Well, we were about done with our bagels when I got up and asked if it was a self-serve, since it had been over ten minutes since we had paid. She said no and that she would drink them right over. Three or four minutes later, she arrives with our drinks, not apologizing for having clearly forgotten about us. To make matters worse, she had entirely messed up my drink order. I received a frozen beverage instead of a hot one, and it tasted terrible. But, not wanting to wait until ten to fifteen minutes for a replace, we decided to leave. This place, I feel, could be enjoyable to go to... but certainly not if that particular person is there. Neither my roommate or I felt welcome and instead were treated disrespectfully.
