HOMEMADE ITALIAN AT ITS FINEST! We just had the most fantastic dinner at Cafe Sole! After a delightful afternoon at Descanso Gardens to celebrate our mom's 75th birthday we continued the party and filled our bellies at Cafe Sole.
Alessandra, the owner, took great care of us. The entire staff were attentive and provided excellent recommendations on food and wine. Now to the food, we started with homemade bread made by Alessandra's husband this morning. My mom had the butternut squash ravioli and thought it was "luscious" with the perfect hint of sage. (I thought it was a bit on the sweet side, but butternut squash is sweet.) My sister had one of the specials: filet mignon ravioli with arribitta sauce. Melt in my mouth! Alessandra suggested that I make an appetizer that I was eyeing (eggplant rollatini) as a meal which then included homemade rotini with tomato sauce. [chef's kiss]!
To finish we shared creamy vanilla bean pana cotta and flourless chocolate cake. I preferred the panda cotta while my mom (the chocolateaholic) liked the cake best.
Basically, you can't go wrong! We look forward to our next meal at Cafe Sole and the amazing food and service provided by Alessandra...
Read moreWe arrived at about 5:10, but it wasn't very busy. I came with my family and we were seated instantly. After being served bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, we ordered. I ordered fettuccine alla bolognese, and my family ordered fettuccine Alfredo*, caeser salad, and Capellini d' Angelo.
*the Alfredo is not called Alfredo on the menu ‐----------------------------------------------------------------- The bolognese was definitely a 10/10, and it was a favorite on the table
The Alfredo was a 9.5/10 because is lacked a little flavor
The caeser salad had good flavor and was light on the stomach. 10/10
The capellini d' Angelo was a solid 10/10 We ordered dessert after. We ordered the cheesecake and the tiramisu. The tiramisu was good, 9.5/10...
But everyone agreed that the cheesecake was the best. It had a delicious flavor and the orange sauce was epic. Totally would recommend.
Also, I would recommend to sit inside because the kitchen is open to view and it is a lot...
Read moreService was good, food could have been better. This is an Italian restaurant. The table service was what you'd expect from a better than average place, with real cloth napkins and fancier silverware. We ordered a calamari arugula salad to share and it was ok/good. No major complaints there. Calamari was warm still which made for a bit if an odd contrast to the cold lettuce. Taste was average, but it was fresh. As the main we ordered the prosciutto pizza. Crust was good, albeit typical. The pizza had cheese and little tomato sauce, which was appropriate. This pizza could have been better assembled or prepared. The meat being the only topping in this case, it felt like it could have used more company to make it more unique and exciting. Overall it was relatively bland, if you know what prosciutto already tastes like and you've had different varieties. I think their pizzas, if they are all like this, could use from a change to a wood burning oven to give them a thinner, more...
