I discovered New Moon a few years back and I’m a big fan of the food, excellent service, and modern, open, atmosphere. And there’s a full bar! Last weekend, I planned a 33-person reunion dinner for ex-colleagues/friends. I worked with the manager, Pook H., to arrange table set up, time and menu. To ease the strain of ordering/cooking/serving 33 separate meals/dishes on a busy Saturday night, we decided on a pre-fixe menu (served ‘family style’) from their catering menu a few days earlier, while allowing others to order ala carte off the menu at the restaurant. The pre-fixe meal was fresh, delicious, beautiful to look at, plentiful, and very satisfying. Pook had sent a per person estimate and was kind enough to substitute in one of their specialty dishes that wasn’t on our pre-fixe menu for no additional charge. The price per person was an incredibly good value as it included tax, 18% gratuity, and refillable beverages for a discounted $2. This made it so easy for everyone. Wonderful service. We were looked after by amazing wait staff/managers who made us feel like we were their only responsibilities. Everyone was friendly, helpful, responsive, and made us feel really welcome, like we were in their home. And the restaurant was full of other diners and large groups. I have come here for lunch and small dinners with friends and it is always good, but specifically I wanted to recommend New Moon as an option for large group gatherings. They do everything well. The menu: started with the complimentary fried won ton chips with slightly spicy sweet and sour sauce (addictive), followed by their famous Chinese Chicken Salad (so fresh and light), Honey Glazed Chicken with Orange (fresh, light, crispy and not overly sweet), Shelby Sweet & Spicy Beef (tender, a little spicy, and one of their specialties), Braised String Beans (crispy and really flavorful), BBQ Pork Chow Mein, (an old-fashioned favorite, really good), and white and/or brown rice. The meal ended with their signature dark/white chocolate covered fortune cookies. Thank you, New Moon. Everyone had a great time, loved the restaurant, the atmosphere, the service,...
Read moreWe had Halloween dinner here - our first time visiting - and WOW! What a gem! Service was great - everyone was super friendly and attentive (and in costume) throughout our visit.
The food. Lord. Talk about FANTASTIC! It’s obviously Westernized, of course, but it’s immediately become our favorite “Chinese food” place. Done and done!
My girlfriend and I LOVE the deep-fried spring roll wrapping with plum sauce for dipping that’s served as soon as you sit down - it’s the Chinese restaurant answer to chips and salsa at Mexican spots! BRAVO! Delicious and deep-fried goodness!
We shared Chicken Pot Stickers, which were beautifully moist and well-seasoned (dipped them in the plum sauce as well); Honey Glazed Chicken with Orange Zest, which was brilliant - sweet, savory, and ugh - SO good; and Fried Rice with shrimp, which was also great - the shrimp were plump, fresh, nicely cooked and plentiful! For some reason, I can’t post the photo of the Honey Glazed Chicken - weird.
We washed it all down with hot oolong tea, and finished it off with the fancy fortune cookies they bring with the check!
There was too much food for the two of us; we could have done without the pot stickers - but we just wanted to try everything, so we over-ordered. And we just barely scratched the surface here - so much more we need to come back and try!
The ambience is modern, and clean. There is a bar attached to the restaurant, which is interesting and cool. Parking might be challenging as the surface lots attached to the property are super small with only a few spaces. Street parking looks to be somewhat challenging, too. That said, we rolled in at 5pm on a busy Halloween afternoon and had no problem parking in the lot just outside the front doors of the restaurant.
This isn’t a cheap meal, by any means. You can get “Chinese food” elsewhere for much less. However, the quality of the experience - staff, those incredible deep-fried dipping wraps/skins, and the perfection of the food are all worth it. We cannot wait to return, as this was deemed our “go-to”...
Read moreQuality Chinese food. Haven't tried anything I didn't like, and I've tried a lot on this menu. Start off with their fried wontons and plum sauce that come on the table. If you prefer take out, make sure to ask for the wontons and plum sauce. Have a drink. I love their lycheetini, but I have them make it with the Grey Goose Pear to give it a little something extra. When it comes to starters, they have the best chicken potstickers hands down. The calamari is equally awesome. Move onto the main course and you will have a ton of great choices. Shrimp with walnuts, kung pao chicken, Shelby's sweet & spicy beef or chicken, garlic chicken with sauteed spinach, chicken lettuce cups, crispy orange peel beef, Chloe's shrimp - all delicious! Even the chow mein is the best I've had. A very close friend of mine came over once and when I suggested Chinese food she started to scoff because it's not her thing, then told me about the only Chinese restaurant she likes to go to. By happy coincidence it turned out to be the New Moon location up by her place. Even people that don't like the typical MSG-laden Americanized Chinese food can appreciate the quality of New Moon. No wonder this small franchise...
