3/18/2022. My wife and I came to visit La Crosse to see Grandad Bluff and other stuff. Decided to eat at Golden Egg Rolls. Nice little place. When we got here, it was busy, they only had 2 servers/waiters but they both did great considering how busy they were. We order 2 Egg Rolls, Pho, and Pad Lad Nad. The egg rolls was okay, not bad, but nothing special about it. It was fresh and crunchy. From the photo, the sauce looks red, but in person, it actually has a pink hue to it, which reminds me of pepto bismal pink. The sauce isn't your typical egg roll sauce. It looks like a sweet and sour sauce, but to me it tasted bland with a after spice taste. You'll have to try it for yourself. The pho was nothing special, just a regular very light pho broth taste, nothing flavorful, it wasn't bad or good. The only thing was they do not have enough pho condiments at the tables for all the tables. After I was done using mines, they came and ask to take the ones on my table to give to the other tables. There isn't much table condiments to add to the pho(fried garlic, beef flavor paste, chili oil, hoisin sauce, siracha sauce). I've never been to a pho place that has beef flavor paste. My wife had the Pad Lad Nad. From the menu, it says dark brown peanut sauce, but the sauce looks lighter in color and there seems to be no peanut in it. Overall nice little place, service was great, food was okay, it fills your belly. I say the best food was the small seasame balls they were selling at...
Read moreMy very first time having a Laos dish was not gone as smooth as I had expected, even though the food that I ordered was quite good overall. As I was a visitor just stopping by the town during my trip, I wanted to try new thing as well. And having learned that Hmong population was the largest Asian ethnic group in the state of Wisconsin, I thought it was a great chance to find out how great authentic Hmong food would be. So that I started with Hmong's Golden Egg Roll and Laos Style Papaya Salad for appetizers, and Hmong Style Sausage with Sticky Rice for main course. I also ordered a Pho Noodle Soup as I was craving for some hot soup after driving a long way in the cold weather of March. Frankly, the egg roll was good, but not so impressive, the sausage was hot due to excessive amount of chili pepper, but remarkable taste-wise, the salad was special but inedible due to strong crab smell salad dressing, and the noodle soup, among all, was the worst. I would definitely come back if I will ever be back to town to try other food as well, but for what I had, my expectations...
Read moreThis place is incredible. I've personally tried nearly everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. One thing that I love about Hmong's Golden Egg Rolls is that nearly every menu item (aside from the egg rolls and spring rolls) can be made-to-order fresh. I have a very sensitive stomach and and I don't do well with overly fatty, rich, or spicy foods. Because of this, I often have them make my dishes with no spice and less oil and they do! The Pho is also a great choice because you get to choose your add-ins and spice level and really personalize your dish once its at your table.
Overall, I would put the Pho at the top of my list. The taste profile is phenomenal and the portions are amazing. I've only gotten the "regular" Pho because the sizes are so generous I can't even finish the regular in a single sitting. The "large" size is enough to feed two people or maybe one very very hungry person. I highly recommend trying the signature egg rolls. They are honestly the best egg rolls I have ever had from any place, so the...
