Mexican twice in 3 days is not a bad idea as it also confirms my earlier review of Lindo’s was fair. Today, we visited Señor Villa in La Crosse, WI. Our party of 6 adults fit in one of many long booths. It was cozy but not too bad. The customary chips and salsa was brought out along with....an interesting creamy dip that was reminiscent of the dip used to dip deep fried mushrooms into. It was really quite tasty and sets Señor Villa out as being different from the other establishments in a good way. Our server was professional and friendly but I think we had some miscommunication regarding the size of beers available. I ended up with a mug the size of a large German stein filled with Modelo. Two Margarita’s were served along with water for the others in our group. Our server was very attentive and ensured we had plenty of chips and water. My 34 oz beer kept me happy throughout my visit. I ordered the Carnitas and it was excellent. Moist and delicious. It was served with the usual refried beans, rice and greens with jalapeños and 3 flour tortillas. I could have used a couple more tortillas but I rather enjoyed eating the remainder of my meal with a fork. The chicken burrito was ordered and it was very large and delicious as well. Actually, everyone enjoyed their own meals to the point that we were too full to order dessert. I really wanted to try the chimichanga cheesecake. Check out their menu online and you will see an amazing selection. The La Crosse location had plenty of seating and a quiet little back area with a tv, perhaps as an overflow for those Friday or Saturday nights? I would really like to visit again and hope I get the chance.

My family goes out for Mexican food a lot - and I mean A LOT. So for this place to rise to the top of the list is an accomplishment in itself. So many good things, starting with complimentary chips & salsa, which apparently isn’t the norm in La Crosse. We saw quite a few places in the Google search results that charged for chips & salsa, which is the main reason we asked the barista at the coffee shop we were at to recommend a place where they’re complimentary. Free is great, but these were free and crave worthy. The salsa…oh, the salsa!! It has the most perfect flavor balance! I honestly don’t think I can recall another salsa that’s better than theirs. Additionally, they serve a delicious white sauce alongside the salsa (as many places do) but, again, it’s better than anywhere I’ve ever had it! Thankfully, that’s not where the flavor explosion ended. My husband ordered the Señor Burrito with chicken and it was massive & delicious, covered in burrito & cheese sauce and served with a large side lettuce salad with pico de gallo. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes with excellent verde sauce & served with a large helping of rice, beans, and lettuce & tomato side salad drizzled with sour cream. If I’m being insanely nitpicky, the shredded chicken could’ve been a tad more tender, but that honestly is the only fault that I could find. The servers were also efficient and pleasant. Outstanding experience all around that left me wishing I didn’t live over 2 hours away! If we were closer, we’d definitely replace our local go-to Mexican place with Señor Villa!

My expectations for good Mexican food in La Crosse was not high having eaten at lots of California and Texan restaurants. Senor Villa didn’t disappoint. I ordered the Shrimp Relleno, which tasted very authentic, with its gooey melted cheese and fresh-tasting shrimp stuffed into the tender poblano pepper. 😋 My only slight disappointment was the chips were not very warm when it was served, typically Mexican restaurants toast it to a level of hotness to bite your fingers when it’s first brought out so you have to wait a little before you dip into the salsa. 😂 Their salsa was a little bland but they give you lots of hot sauce options at the table to adjust the heat level, some like it hot, some like it not. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Service was very friendly and quick. Prices were fair and probably on the cheaper end, but that’s relative to my experience from eating out in larger cities.

Food was good. Service was quick as usual, with an exception. Our 11 yr old ordered a kids margarita, non-alcoholic. However, it was not. It had tequila in it, and it was strong!

I asked our server to speak with the bartender, and she said they were not there. She kept saying the drink had no alcohol in it, but it most certainly did. I've had plenty of alcohol in my life, and that certainly had a lot in it. She continued to deny the fact, and also denied that the bartender was present. Throughout our meal, I saw her behind the bar many times getting drinks. I deduced without effort that she in fact was the bartender.

At the end of our meal, I asked to speak with the manager, but he was out on break. Then I asked for a supervisor, and she said there was none. But again, that was another lie. The front of house had a man who said he was acting supervisor. I had to ask another member of staff to inform the manager, and he did so quite quickly. So he did well.

The lady serving us seemed to only hope we wouldn't press further and leave quietly. We did not. Despite our severely discounted meal, it remains a very poor experience.

So awkward and difficult to get any sort of satisfaction or for someone to take responsibility for this action. They served an 11 year old alcohol, and she drank quite a bit before complaining of it burning. Understandable. She doesn't know any better.. but too much denial happened on behalf of the staff to let this slide.

A good meal ruined by...
