So the reason why I am Giving you a one star because your method of purchasing product back from customers is extremely low and very insulting to any products worth, see you guys buy things for 1/3 of the value of a product so that makes an item that let’s say is $320 only the value of $106 give or take this is extremely insulting not only to customers but to a community that Has passion for Gaming or card trading, Or just in general around games. This especially a effects Buying Singleton MGT cards. Because I had my little own personal experience not that long ago coming in in selling some cards that were in the of a value of $340 I was only offered $90 for my entire collection. I find this to be very insulting and very unprofessional not only did your store employee lied to me but continued to lie to me in my face when we went over each of the cards value and came to a total and agreed upon the total for what it was worth and he still only offered me $90. When your store policy is 1/3 of the value so should have gotten $113 for my cards.
So please do not get me wrong I understand that you need to make a profit But buying peoples products For 1/3 of the value is extremely low and is basically spitting into your customers face and telling them that when they make an investment that they’re getting nothing in return. I hope you understand where I’m coming from and my third thing is That I seen your response to other reviews and telling customers to go to another store is really poor business because they don’t like something. I really do like the store I like doing business here but selling my cards To you guys is nothing next to a joke. I really do hope that you guys change how you guys buy cards from people or any product in the future!
And on top of it they only will allow you to use your in store credit for whatever they want to. Stupid if I come into a you and you offered in credit I should be allowed to purchase whatever I want from that In store credit. So basically I want buy new set that came out and I had Approximately $130 for trade in so I could get a $50 item but I was told no because that not how their in store credit works, you where losing money from the deal. I just don’t get. I will never trade nor purchase items from...
Read moreBeen shopping here for Pokémon cards the last couple of months and this is my reflection on the store. First, I notice that their individual Pokémon card inventory does not really update, at least in their glass display for higher end cards. Over the last 2 months, I notice their same high end Pokémon cards ($50 plus) does not seem to sell well and are still on display over a 2 month time period. Seems like no one buys out of their display case. As for pricing for individual cards, I feel like some of the employees are not on the same page as others. By this, I’ve been given near mint pricing for cards that are light played to heavy played and damaged cards. Some near mint cards I bought are priced reasonably fair within near mint pricing but then again I guess it just depends with which employee sells the cards. One example, I bought a $30 near mint card for near mint pricing from one employee and was going to buy a market value $68 card from another employee but I was told $80 so I did not buy the card (actually bought the same card else where for $69). When you buy at 30% from your sellers, which is the lowest rate in the area, wouldn’t near mint be fair? As for sealed products, those are priced fairly for the market. Overall, know your pricing on individual cards when you shop here, the store does not price cards until you buy whatever card you’re buying. TCG has a good app for pricing cards and conditions there are many references on eBay as well. I would still shop here but not for higher end...
Read moreGreat experience! Stopped by with my band to kill time in La Crosse and ended up walking out with some card cases and packs.
Selection is akin to most hobby stores, with all the major card games covered. Add to that comics, toys, tabletop rpg supplies and random imported shwag and you've got a decent variety in here.
The service was also nice. Friendly, ready to answer questions and help me play around with a budget. If you're in the area and looking for a good hobby store experience River City is an excellent option!
Edit: one of the biggest concerns I've seen in negative reviews is their buy back program. After looking over the details myself and asking some questions I can't help but say their program is more than fair. Yes, you may not get the full price for your rare tv seasons, but that's to be expected in any buyback scenario with a middle man. Yes, card prices are typically set to a third of their value, but again this is common practice and MORE than fair for a brick and mortar place. If you need quick cash or want to trade in it's a solid option. Just keep in mind ebay and tcgplayer ARE options for you if you wanna squeeze every penny...
