Howie’s on La Crosse — Restaurant in La Crosse

My mother-in-law, son and I were having lunch at Howie’s today (09/09/2025). We have been coming to Howie’s for years. So we are regular customers and come in every Tuesday. I ordered the chicken tender meal with coleslaw, instead of fries; with honey mustard on the side. The server brings my food out. It had fries when I didn’t want that; along with regular mustard, instead of the honey mustard. Before I ate, I asked if my son wanted one of the tenders. About 20 minutes of eating, my son comes across one of the tenders that he couldn’t even bite into. We tell the server, and he told the manager (Blake). Blake comes lashing out at us stating, “I am NOT giving you a new tender!! Every time you guys come in, you always have this issue!!” Blake then stated, “If you don’t like it, then DON’T come here anymore!!” Blake was then clearing our table and not asking if we were finished with anything. So he was taking away the mini corn dogs that were not finished. My mother-in-law asked for the manager’s number. Blake brought the number and told her that he called and said to expect a call. Decent Food, Waiters not as good

I came to Howies with my boyfriend for the first time a few months ago back to give it a try because we had heard amazing things. First impression I loved the Decorations and look of the restaurant a lot! We were seated and it took our waiter around 10 minutes to take our drink orders. Our Waiter checked on us when he brought our drinks and asked what we would like and we politely said we needed some more time so he said ok and then vanished for like the next 15 minutes, we had been ready for some time so I almost had to ask another waiter where he was? He did come back a few moments later and took our order. Our orders arrived around 15 minutes later. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Wrap with French Fries and my boyfriend ordered the Jerry Burger. Was not impressed with the wrap it was just all thrown together and the Caesar Dressing did not taste right at all, the Fries were delicious however. My Boyfriend said the Jerry Burger was just ok. When it was time to pay we once again could not find our waiter and a paying customer should not have to come and find you but it almost came down to that. Was not very impressed wont be coming back again...

My husband and I were traveling back to Sioux Falls, SD from Chicago and decided to stop in La Crosse for a bite to eat. He looked up places to eat and found the absolute treasure that is Howie’s. The environment was very fun and welcoming, with college students, families, and older couples all represented. The restaurant was also very clean and had a variety of seating options, including a bar, high and low tops, and a balcony. The staff were very helpful, friendly, and attentive during our visit.

But the real reason for this 5 star review: the food. We decided to split an order of the Hometown Hot Wings and each got a burger. The wings came out first and were honestly the best wings I’ve ever had. They were spicy but in a way that made the flavor even better. They were so fresh and cooked to perfection. The burgers were also incredible. Every bite was a delight. They were unique and fun and yet were exactly what I wanted from a local restaurant.
