Best Wok — Restaurant in La Marque

Today my wife (who is Chinese) and I visited this restaurant for the first time. I have to say I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The place was very clean, quiet, and I love how I could see the chefs at work right behind the counter. The cooking/kitchen area was well-organized and clean as well.

We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who took our order at the counter (where we paid for our food up front) before finding our seats. We ordered three plates (yes, we have leftovers) that included General T'so's Chicken, Hunan Beef, and a meat combination plate - all with steamed rice. All three plates arrived about 10 to 15 minutes later.

The food was fresh, hot and super delicious. I would rank it in my top five Chinese restaurants of all time. I've attached pictures of what we received (they were taken after we had already started eating).

Now to the at least two reviewers who complained that the help there is rude and were not smiling. Well, all I have to say is you need to understand real Chinese culture. I've been to China four times now, and it's true - Chinese people walk around with what I would call "stone faces."

Unlike in America, they show no emotion at all in public. That is, until you take a moment to say "hi" to them in Chinese. Then they light up with an infectious smile. One of the male waiters at Best Wok was equally emotionless, but when I told him "hello" in Chinese, his face lit up and his smile was huge - just like I experience in China.

Want to get the same reaction? Just say "Nee How" (that's not how it's spelled, but I spelled it that way to make it easy to say) to anyone there and you'll see what I mean. It simply means "hello" in Chinese.

I went to Best Wok Thursday night July 3rd, I ordered the pepper steak with broccoli and fried rice. I sat down to eat once I got home and first thing I noticed was there were more vegetables than anything. I wasn't bothered since I do like vegetables but after tasting the meat I was now bothered. The meat had no actual meat texture and the best thing I can describe it as was a fatty, chewy, rubbery texture. It was every piece of meat in the plate with this texture. I called the restaurant to see if I could just replace the entree with chicken. A lady answers the phone once I began talking she is instantly rude, and very short. When I let her know that the meat was fatty, rubbery texture she begun saying "it's meat, we only use beef". I'm now telling her I know it's beef but the texture is not edible so am I able to get something different. She says no! "We don't do remakes!" I say okay well can I get a refund. This is when she began spewing racist remarks "you black people" "it's always something with people" "you always want something for nothing". I politely got in my car and took their plate of food back to their doorstep. Just wanted to let the community know who they are giving their business and money to. This was so unacceptable and unexpected. I have eaten at this establishment millions of times and never had an issue. They will never get another red cent...

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Absolute worst customer service ever! The manager and the staff are rude they do not apologize or take responsibility at all! We ordered a Togo order on 5/5 once we got it home to have dinner after a few bites we realized the chicken from both plates didn’t taste right! I immediately got back in my car to bring it back to the restaurant and they we're already closed by 8:17 although their sign says they close at 10:30 on Saturday’s!!! I kept the food in the fridge to bring back to them on 5/7 as we had plans on Sunday. The cashier gave me the blankest, dumb stare and was arguing with me! The manager come is with an attitude and still basically says I’m wrong it wasn’t bad!!! Riddle me this whyyy would I drive all the way back Saturday evening and today for food that we didn’t eat and I tipped on a Togo order if it wasn’t bad? They gave me my money back but I was so infuriated when I left they could’ve kept my money and their trash food along with their horrible attitudes! The manager yelled for me to appreciate as I was leaving! Here’s my appreciation!!! GO ANYWHERE BUT...
